Joey Logano is a first-hand witness to the unsettling times for NASCAR in the past decade, which has seen it suffer critical losses in terms of viewership. The two-time Cup Series champ has battled through the tough challenges the sport presents to the drivers. Despite the hard times, Joey Logano’s talent has made him one of the best NASCAR drivers of the modern era. Recently, Logano expressed his feelings about NASCAR’s success and evolution over the course of the last season while pointing out some of the “failures.”

In a recent interview, the Team Penske driver shared that the introduction of the Next Gen cars has certainly helped NASCAR move in a positive direction. Though the 32-year-old reckoned that new financial opportunities have acted as a massive boost to NASCAR’s growth in recent times, he also expressed his concerns about what went wrong.

Joey Logano thrilled over NASCAR’s viewership milestone

During a recent interview, renowned journalist Graham Bensinger revealed that 2022 was the best year for NASCAR in terms of viewership since 2018. He then asked Logano if he would have done some things differently during NASCAR’s major transformation last season if he had been running the sport.

Logano pointed out that being a driver, he found it hard to see the “whole” perspective, making him “one-sided” at times. However, he argued that the same thing happens with NASCAR when they fail to understand the challenges faced by the drivers.

Further, while suggesting the changes he would have made in the way the Next Gen cars were introduced last season, Logano acknowledged the massive milestone NASCAR achieved last season.

He said, “With all that said, and as much challenges, and, in my opinion, failures that happened last year, it still was one of the best years NASCARs ever had. Or maybe the best year they ever had. Because everyone worked together.”

Logano felt that he would have done a few things differently while disagreeing with some of the decisions made by NASCAR, which had triggered frustrations among other drivers. Moreover, the #22 driver also revealed the things he would have changed in terms of NASCAR’s approach towards growth last season.

Joey Logano did not seem too impressed by the way NASCAR introduced the Next Gen cars. He also raised some safety concerns while disclosing that a lot of drivers had problems with the car and some of them had even been vocal about it.

Logano said, “The way we introduced that and the way we went through with a lot of the testing and the design process. I probably would have done a lot of things differently.”

However, despite suggesting the alternatives, Joey Logano was thrilled with NASCAR’s progress and hoped for the good times to carry on this year as well.
