Barbie and Oppenheimer together garnered over $300 million in ticket sales worldwide, making it one of the most successful box office weekends in history. The phenomenon showcased the power of intellectual property-driven entertainment and highlighted the significance of representation and diversity in filmmaking.

Shapiro’s 43-minute-long rant on YouTube was a spectacle. He unabashedly set fire to Barbie and Ken dolls to illustrate his disdain for what he dubbed a “flaming piece of dogs**t” movie. In his critique, he accused the film of being overly “woke” and perpetuating an agenda of divisive feminism. The video drew mocking responses from some, questioning why a grown man would be so bothered by a film centered on toys.

Shapiro began his rant with some sharp words, “This movie is not just a piece of shit. This movie is a flaming piece of dogs**t piled atop an entire dumpster of fire, piled atop a landfill filled with s**t. Who thought it was a great idea?

“Let’s bring on the people who were on—Lady Bird and marriage story to make a movie about a plastic doll that is generally played with by five to nine-year-old girls.

“I was trying to separate this into problems with plot and problems with characters and problems with politics of the film. But they are intertwined because the thing is just a mess. Plot-wise, it makes no sense. Character-wise, makes no sense. This movie is 2 hours. It feels like it is longer than the Vognerian Ring Cycle.

It doesn’t end. Every piece is 2 minutes too long. Every beat is 2 minutes too long. Putting the politics aside, it is a bad movie.” From here, Shapiro delves into why an American review-aggregation website for film and television like Rotten Tomatoes would score this as highly as 91%.
