The 2023 Cup Series season is surely going to be a tear-jerking season. This season is set to witness the farewell of some of the veterans of the series. And amongst those celebrated names lies the 2014 Cup Series champion Kevin Harvick, who will bow out of the tracks of NASCAR at the end of the season.
While there are possible names who could join Harvick and follow the same suit, before they talk about bidding farewell, another beloved figure of NASCAR has already pulled the curtains on his journey, putting an end to a career spanning over a decade. It is none other than the beloved pace car driver, Kip Childress. The veteran official took to Twitter to announce the sad news after the culmination of the Chicago Street Race.

Goodbyes have never been easy for any individual. But who can stop the flow of time? While the world bursts into joy as they welcome a new face, on the contrary, individuals brace themselves to bid adieu to the person leaving the racing world. And the same is with Kip Childress as well.
The veteran boasts two hats to his name, one as the NASCAR Cup Series director and the other being the pace car driver which he has continued for more than a decade. While the community of NASCAR was elated with the inaugural race on the streets, little did they know that it would be one last time they would be seeing the brusque man taking his seat behind the wheel for the one last time.
Apart from being the pace car driver and directing the course of racing, this veteran driver is known for being confused with team boss Richard Childress or someone related to him. However, the director often used this opportunity to his heart’s content. He had revealed, “And its paid some dividends too, I managed to maybe get an upgrade on a flight because of that.”
Childress recently took to Twitter to inform about the news. He wrote, “When the chequered flew at the conclusion of today’s race, it not only signified the end of the race…it also signified the end of a great chapter of my life as my career at NASCAR has come to an end.”
He also added the words, “Thank you!!! It’s been a heckuva ride!!.”
