Veteran sportswriter Holly Cain shared some tough personal news back in January—she’s battling cancer for the second time. Holly went public with her diagnosis on January 7 and kicked off a rigorous seven-week treatment schedule on January 29, including chemotherapy and radiation. She’s scheduled for five rounds of chemo in total. Despite this challenge, she’s been keeping up with her writing from home. But here’s some good news: the latest updates say she’ll be able to hit the race track again soon to cover the races live.
Holly Cain will be present at the cup race this weekend
After wrapping up her chemotherapy and radiation treatments for her second battle with cancer, she’s been cleared by her doctors to cover the race. Holly Cain shared the update on Twitter: “After months of cancer treatment – I finished chemo and radiation – got the “okay” from docs to cover a race at track – and couldn’t be happier to be at @TALLADEGA this weekend! Unlike the cars, Im still moving a little slowly – but excited to he here! #grateful #NASCAR.”

Doug Rice led the charge on a fundraiser for Holly Cain, aiming to hit $50,000 to help with her medical and living costs. However, they already managed to gather nearly $25,000 thanks to donations from folks in the motorsports world within a day. Before this latest battle with cancer, Holly Cain had also fought breast cancer since July 2014.
Holly Cain has been a staple in Racing America’s NASCAR coverage for the last couple of years, but her roots in motorsports journalism go way deeper, spanning over three decades. Her spirit hasn’t gone unnoticed—she won the NMPA Pocono Spirit Award back in 2015, an honor that celebrates those who demonstrate courage, sportsmanship, and dedication to motorsports.
The journalist has also bagged the Henry McLemore Motorsports Press Award and made a bit of history as the first woman to receive the Bob Russo Founders Award. Meanwhile, NASCAR fans seemed really happy to hear the news of Holly Cain making a comeback on the track.
