The historic race in Chicago last weekend was a memorable one. With debutant, Shane van Gisbergen winning it, the NASCAR Cup Series‘ first-ever street race had it all. While Gisbergen deserved every bit of it, it could have gone south due to an act involving Bubba Wallace. Unsurprisingly, the 23XI Racing driver earned a lot of criticism for it.

Wallace is no stranger to getting bashed by fans, but this time around it was for a different reason. However, just before the race, he posted an interesting message from his wife that would have definitely helped him after the race.

It is no secret how Bubba Wallace has more often than not found himself around controversies in and around NASCAR. If that’s not the case, he has time and again received some bashing for his 0n-track performance. In fact, the treatment he received because of his poor start to the 2023 campaign was an example of how he’s always under scrutiny.

Having said that, Wallace has done immensely well to bounce back and stands a good chance to make it to the playoffs. He now has four top-five finishes to his name and hopefully, it shouldn’t be long until he registers his first win of the season. However, the Chicago race built a different image for him in the fans’ minds.

With Shane van Gisbergen in the lead and two laps remaining, Bubba Wallace overshot his entry into the corner. He then slammed into Ricky Stenhouse Jr to take the race into overtime. Fans then feared that the incident hampered SVG’s chances and brutally bashed the Alabama-born driver for his negligence.

Despite the abuse received from the NASCAR fanbase, Wallace had a positive shoulder to rely on. Just before the race, the #23 driver sent out a message inspired by his wife. Citing how the weather looked tricky before the race, Wallace’s wife showed the positive side of things.

The 7-word message from her was, “Well at least it?s not a tornado”. While Wallace took inspiration from it, it surely would have helped him after the criticism he received after the race. After all, seeking positivity has always helped.
