Last year, there was a confrontation between Denny Hamlin and Alex Bowman. That feud culminated in Hamlin dubbing the #48 driver a ‘hack’. Prior to that, the word ‘hack’ had been used before by Hendrick Motorsport themselves. This was when Chase Elliott had a clash with Team Penske’s Joey Logano at Las Vegas in September 2020.
The #9 team called Logano a ‘dipsh*t’ and a ‘hack’. Afterward, a notably calmer Elliott insisted that the face-off was a one-off and all was forgiven and forgotten. He said, “You know, it’s all good. He’s gonna race how he wants, and that’s fine. That’s his decision and I have nothing to do with the decisions he makes and what he does. And I personally don’t really care either.”

At the Martinsville Speedway, Hendrick Motorsports had plenty of issues with Logano’s driving style. During the Playoff elimination race, Logano was a touch too close to Elliott in Stage 1. Needless to say, Elliott and the team were fuming on the radio. Crew chief Alan Gustafson said “He’s a f—ing hack,”, and called for Elliott to “wreck him here and next week.”
In the end, the #9 driver got his own back when he triumphed at Martinsville. With that, he booked his spot in the Championship 4 and was well on his way to eventually winning the title. As for Joey Logano, he is pretty much notorious for his aggressive driving and unapologetic personality. In fact, he has feuded with many drivers, including Joe Gibbs Racing duo Kyle Busch and Martin Truex Jr.

Gustafson was mad that a tire rub from the #22 driver could have been costly for Chase Elliott. As for Elliott himself, he really got his elbows out at Martinsville. To be precise, he got into the back of Denny Hamlin and traded paint jobs with Brad Keselowski in the early stages of the race. Since he needed a win to secure a place in the Championship 4, he amped up the aggression.
