As it turns out, it looks like happy days are around the corner for veteran Kevin Harvick and racing fans as Kern Raceway gave a wonderful farewell gift to the 2014 Cup Series champion. So what is the wholesome news that is making waves in NASCAR nation, you ask?

Well, honoring the former Stewart-Haas Racing driver, Kern Raceway has paid a special tribute to Harvick by commemorating the veteran’s name in its books forever, the new owners announced on Wednesday. Ushering a new year fueled with enthusiasm and zeal, the owners, as part of their new partnership with Harvick, will ensure they make the best decisions to benefit the track and the sport at the ground level.

Despite the disappointing farewell season, going out without a single W to his name, the 47-year-old now has a reason to be excited about as the raceway bestowed upon the Bakersfield native an ultimate sign of respect.

Kevin Harvick receives the highest honor as Kern Raceway officials rename his home track with a special ring to it

NASCAR nation was gifted with a wholesome news earlier this week when Tim & Lisa Huddleston announced that the Kern County Raceway in Bakersfield, California will be renamed to Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway. Kern County’s only half-a-mile track, which was founded back in 2013 by Charlie Beard, Rusty Risi, and James Vernon, is slated to undergo significant changes under the new ownership, with the renaming being the initial step.

The Huddlestons, who are renowned for their work at LA County’s Irwindale Speedway & Event Center, will work closely with the veteran to bring the action back to the track, ensuring that it flourishes on grassroots level. The move also aligns with the former SHR driver’s vision for his home track.

Let’s be very frank here, this wasn’t the way anyone wanted to see the veteran go out in his final season in NASCAR’s top-tier division, ending a career spanning more than 2 decades. Even though he made it to the playoffs, the absence of a win in his farewell season will forever be a blemish. Perhaps one that will never go away.

Fortunately for Harvick, he won’t be remembered for his disappointing last season but for the iconic moments he gave to the sport, taking the helm of the RCR car by filling in the shoes of one of the sport’s greatest drivers, the iconic Dale Earnhardt at a time of despair. Harvick’s journey from local tracks, notably the iconic Mesa Marin Raceway, to the pinnacle of NASCAR as a Cup Series champion, resonates deeply with Bakersfield’s racing community. A legacy that will certainly shape up a better tomorrow for the sport and the track in general.
