It’ll be a while until the current generation of NASCAR drivers hang up their boots but the future seems to be shaking up quite nicely. The best part is that a lot of the drivers that we might see race in the Cup Series some 15-20 years down the line will be second or third-generation drivers. The biggest example of this is Kyle Busch’s son, Brexton, who has already started to make a mark in the junior circuits.

At just eight years old, Brexton Busch is already on course to become a full-time Cup Series driver in the future. And why wouldn’t he be? Not only does he have his champion father to guide him on his journey to the top, but he also has a champion in his uncle Kurt Busch to show him the ropes when the going gets tough. But the competition is heating up for Brexton as a certain someone with a familiar last name is starting to take motor racing a bit more seriously.

Brexton Busch has often been compared to Chase Elliott given how both of them got into motor racing. Chase is someone who has also grown up in a motorsports-inclined family. His father, Bill Elliott, was the 1988 Cup Series champion, and through his guidance, Chase found his way into stock car racing and eventually NASCAR.

At 27 years old, Chase has already won the Cup Series title once, and with a long career ahead of him, there is no doubt that he will challenge for a lot more of those titles in the future.

Brexton’s career could take a similar path. Like Elliott, he too has a championship-winning father and, like Elliott, he has also been doing quite well for himself in the junior circuit of stock car racing. However, there might be a new driver in town to challenge Brexton, and like him and Chase Elliott, this young racer also has a Cup Series champion as his father.

In a recent interview, 2021 NASCAR Cup Series winner Kyle Larson revealed that his Owen has started to take racing a lot more seriously than before and has been competitive this year. It’s a great feeling for any parent when their child shows an interest in their field and there is no question that Kyle will provide every bit of support to his son if he decides to stick with racing.

“Owen didn’t really like love racing himself, I think he liked going to the racetrack but he didn’t love racing but this year he’s been competitive so he’s now liking it and kind of focusing more on it and putting a little more effort into it which is good, you know, so, it’s enjoyable,” Kyle Larson said when asked if his children were inclined towards racing.

But the Hendrick Motorsports star was quick to admit that he was not going to force anything on his children and let them decide what they want to do later on.

“I honestly just want them to do whatever they want to do. I don’t wanna force them into anything and then…so we try to involve them in a lot of different activities,” he added.

Larson is a father of three, of which the youngest child, Cooper Donald, was born as recently as December 31, 2022. Apart from him and Owen, Larson has a daughter, Audrey Layne, who kind of has a competition against her older brother to do everything that he does.

Sibling rivalry at a young age is very common, and Kyle Larson is experiencing it firsthand. Although his daughter is four, which is half the age of his older brother Owen (8), Larson revealed that she is adamant about doing every single thing that his brother does, including racing.

“My daughter, she wants to do anything my son does, Owen, so you know, like if he’s playing football, she wants to play football. He plays baseball so she wants to play baseball. He races, she wants to race. Anything that he’s into…she’s kind of a tomboy so she wants to just do it all,” Larson revealed in the same interview.

So maybe this sibling rivalry will grow into something much bigger and the Larson family might just have two racers with the world at their feet. Safe to say that Brexton Busch really needs to buckle up for that rivalry if it happens.
