William Byron grabbed all the headlines on Sunday after a surprising end to the Darlington race. While there were plenty of twists in the dying moments, the Hendrick Motorsports driver came out with flying colors for the third time this season. However, things would have been different had late cautions and a late multi-car crash not taken place, especially for Kyle Busch.
With two wins already in the NASCAR Cup Series this campaign, Busch has had an impressive start to his Richard Childress Racing career. In fact, he was quite close to increasing his tally at Darlington but it just wasn’t his day.

Safe to say, Darlington didn’t disappoint as far as drama is concerned. The race had it all with eight different leaders and 19 lead changes during the entire course. Furthermore, eight cautions including two stage breaks, only added more twists. However, it wasn’t how Kyle Busch imagined the race would end for him.
It is never wise to write off Busch as he has shown time and again. Despite not leading the race at Darlington, Rowdy was close to the leaders almost throughout the race. In fact, as Denny Hamlin stated, he had one of the good cars at the venue and stood a great chance of making it count.
Things really seem to be going well for him as he finished third in Stage Two. However, during his pit stop, he was guilty of sliding it too far which saw him fall back. Unfortunately, two accidents on Turn 1 and 2 disrupted the flow of the race and saw Busch lose his pace. Eventually, he had to settle for a seventh-placed finish.
Interestingly, the race radio chatter shared recently by NASCAR how frustrating it was for the former Joe Gibbs Racing driver. During a crucial stage of the race, Busch’s spotter Derek Kneeland was found saying on Turn 1, “You’re okay. Hang on up there. We’ll be fine here. The #1 and the #5 hit it harder earlier.”
While this was in context with the crash between Kyle Larson and Ross Chastain, Busch had a frustrating reply then. He said, “It’s been plowing ass tight. What the f**k?” Clearly, it wasn’t easy for the drivers as the race progressed.

Sadly, even after 23 races at Darlington, Busch still awaits his first victory there. However, it seems nothing’s going his way, especially after his recent revelation post the Sunday race.

He said, “Unfortunate for me wanting to go there and run (the Indy 500). Had a sponsor lined up to do it with and been told ‘no’ everywhere. ‘We don’t have room,’ or whatever it might be. It’s really frustrating.” Disappointed with the feedback, the RCR driver has made his stance clear.

Busch said, “I’m not going to be making calls and pushing for it. If somebody calls me and says that they’re ready to go and it all lines up right, so be it. We’ll go do it.” Hopefully, someone turns up and gets the two-time Cup Series champion to the Indy 500 in time. Do you think a sponsor would swoop in late for Busch? Let us know in the comments below.
