Austin Hill’s reputation as an Xfinity driver standout has earned him a coveted multi-year contract extension with RCR. With six career wins, including an impressive four this year alone, Hill is on the rise. Amidst the excitement of his new deal, Hill makes it clear that his sights are set on the Xfinity Series for the next couple of years. However, his words hold a hint of intrigue, as he leaves room for change. The possibility of RCR acquiring a third charter for the Cup Series could be the catalyst for Hill’s transition to the highest level of NASCAR racing.
When asked if his contract extension has any opportunity for him to do Cup races. Hill said, “So you know next year it’ll definitely be Xfinity for sure. Going forward after that, it all depends you know if things open up. Let’s say that RCR is able to acquire third charter or something like that. You know there’s no telling what could happen, but as of right now, it is structured for Xfinity for the next two years. But there again, I mean things can change and the way it’s kind of structured in the contract and all, there’s things that can obviously change but we won’t know those for now.”
“Maybe at the end of next year, we might have a better understanding of where we’ll be. But honestly, I love running the Xfinity series cars. They’re a lot of fun to drive, you know, slipping and sliding around in those things and stuff like that. So I’m really happy where I’m at right now and I don’t think it’s anything where I need to have to rush it to go to Cup,” he added.
While Austin Hill’s aspirations for the Cup Series paint a promising picture, his recent encounter with Sam Mayer at Watkins Glen International reveals the intense emotions that come with competitive racing.

Hill, a strong contender in the race, expressed his displeasure with Mayer’s actions, making it clear that his respect for Mayer has waned significantly.
The incident took place after a late restart when Sam Mayer’s actions triggered a chain reaction, affecting both Ty Gibbs and Austin Hill. Hill’s frustrations were evident as he criticized Mayer’s driving approach and conveyed his disappointment.
Hill said after the race, “The No. 1 drives over his head all the time. I should’ve known. You have the No. 19 up there, then you have the No. 1. I’ve lost all respect for Sam Mayer. As far as I’m concerned, he can kiss my a**.”

“I’m just very mad right now. That he didn’t at least try to race us. He just took both of us out, knowing that we were the two to beat. Don’t have no respect for him. We’ll have to see what happens down the road, but I won’t be racing him clean from now on, I can tell you that,” Hill concluded.
