Is Joey Logano's aggressive driving style a sign of strength or just asking for trouble?

It’s controversial victory laps like the one at the Cook Out 400 that are spoken about for years to come. Austin Dillon won the Richmond race, but to do that, he had to ruin the race for two other drivers. The driver who was P32 in terms of points has made it into the playoffs, which is quite an unusual sight. Between the two drivers that Dillon wrecked on the final turn, Denny Hamlin understood the situation and let it slide; however, the same could not be said about the other driver.

Joey Logano was furious after being taken out of the race by Austin Dillon. The Team Penske driver has won multiple championships, and although he lost the race, it was not the losing that got him mad. Being wrecked is not a great feeling, and it hurts even more when you are the race leader. Logano was upset that Dillon caused the crash that wrecked him, as his frustrations started to show beyond the interviews. Dillon spoke about Logano’s behavior after the race on Kevin Harvick’s podcast, and this is what he had to say.

After Austin Dillon won his first race in two years, Kevin Harvick just had to call him down to NASCAR on FOX’s YouTube channel to talk about his win. Both Harvick and Dillon are drivers of the No. 3 RCR car, and that puts the 2014 champion in a similar mindset as Austin’s.  The two discussed the race for a bit before Harvick stated, “We’ve all been in those positions before, but just explain to the fans what you expect going forward from those two guys as you race. Do you worry about retaliation, or what do you worry about from that standpoint?”

Kevin Harvick empathized with Dillon with his experience as a race car driver as he asked, “What are the consequences that happen going forward, and how do you deal with those mentally? I know everybody handles them differently.” Austin Dillon tried to clear his name in front of his fans by saying, “Yeah, well, I mean, obviously, it’s fair game for them when it’s the last lap and going into the last corner of a race. The way I look at it, I raced them really clean throughout the race; it was the last corner, the last lap of the race, that got me into the playoffs.”

Although the race took its course, Dillon analyzed both the driver’s post-race interviews and then said, “I thought Denny’s interview was pretty solid. Joey, I don’t know; I thought he threw some low blows in there. It was obviously frustrating in the moment, but the two guys I got into it with have done a lot that I’ve learned from on the last lap of races themselves.” Austin Dillon brought up the times in the past when the two drivers he wrecked did a similar thing to others during the last lap.

One of the things that Austin Dillon has learned from Joey Logano’s past interviews is that he would do whatever it takes to prove how badly he wanted the win as he implemented it into his own race. So when it comes to talking about retaliation, Dillon concluded the topic with a quote from his grandfather: “You might kick a dog, but he’ll bite back at some point.” This stands as a warning to drivers who plan on crossing the line when it comes to post-race interviews, as Dillon sounds unhappy with Logano’s statements.

Joey Logano was pretty fired up after getting wrecked by Austin Dillon at the Cook Out 400 in Richmond. Logano was leading the race on the final lap when Dillon made an aggressive move that sent Logano spinning. Getting wrecked is frustrating in itself, but when it is done to a race leader, it’s a whole different story.

Logano didn’t hold back in his post-race comments. He called Dillon a “piece of crap” and criticized him harshly, saying Dillon’s move was a “chickens**t move.” Logano was clearly frustrated, not just because of the wreck but because Dillon’s win seemed to come at his expense. In short, Logano’s not happy about how things went down, and he made his feelings about Dillon pretty clear.
