The entire season of the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series has mostly been a tug-o-war between the Chevrolets and the Toyotas. But not anymore. Since the regular season races at Richmond and Michigan, another manufacturer has attained remarkable success in the arena of NASCAR. And that is the Blue Oval company, Ford. The resurgence of the Fords, including the back-to-back wins of Chris Buescher and his most recent victory at Daytona, is now a hot topic of discussion.

Chris Buescher now sits at rank 3 in the driver’s point standings with his boss Brad Keselowski, just a few spots below him in the 7th place. Looking back at last year, struggling hard, the boss-driver duo failed to make it into the playoff rumble. However, all those struggles seem to have paid off as this year, they are two of the biggest championship contenders in the NASCAR Cup Series.

Brad Keselowski has been shouldering the weight of owning Roush Fenway Racing since 2021. And in a mere span of 2 years, he was able to get both his cars into playoff contention which many big-shot teams have failed to achieve. When the #17 Ford icon won the regular season finale at Daytona, ousting Chase Elliott out of the playoffs and sending Bubba Wallace to the postseason, every team out there felt the threat that this considerably small team posed.

Buescher and his teammate/boss Brad Keselowski finished 1-2 for RFK Racing at the Coke Zero Sugar 400. Besides that, it was Buescher’s 3rd win in the last 5 races. Come Talladega, Buescher and Keselowski are perhaps leaving no stone unturned to win at another Superspeedway and madhouse.

When Jeff Burton of NBC Sports walked into the RFK Racing facility, he had one very pertinent question for Brad Keselowski. He asked, “So this weekend we got Talladega. What is the realistic goal for this weekend?”

Brad Keselowski smiled and acknowledged that they were totally in control of their momentum. He admitted that they had the ability to control even the restricted play track and said, “We really think we can go there and run 1-2.”

“We’re gonna try to get up to the front. If we can get to the front, we’re going to be really hard to get rid of,” he added with confidence.

According to Brad Keselowski, the biggest challenge of owning RFK Racing is to uphold the history of the team. He feels the urgent need to repeat the wins that the organization has once achieved and that too, in a completely different environment than before.

Jeff Burton was curious if there was a turning point for Brad Keselowski last year when Chris Buescher had to win at Bristol Motor Speedway to bring an end to a 222-race-long winless streak.

During the post-race interview, the driver said, “This is just so special. Really broke our heart back in 2015 on the Xfinity side, so this makes up for that.”

Brad owed all the credit to Chris Buescher’s win back in September 2022. Keselowski said, “We had other really good results and then we had a tremendous offseason bringing in more great people, added some more resources, and that’s really fueled our success for ’23,” he told Burton.

But what started this process of resurgence? Brad walked Burton up to a large board on one of the walls in the facility and said, “When I came here, there was some form of goal boards. It’s like how do we calibrate this to the vision of where the company’s going? Relevant. Contender. Champion.”

“We have a lot more boxes checked this year than we had last year. But if we check these boxes at the very top, we can win the Championship this year,” he added.
