Kyle Busch has been in the NASCAR arena for a really long time. He started racing all the way back in 2001 in the Truck Series, for Roush Racing. In essence, he has been in the sport for two decades and he started off at the age of 16. Recently, he made an appearance on a podcast where he spoke about being a rookie driver. He also talked about the time when he had to rub shoulders with several top racers of that era and get his elbows out against them.

Speaking with the hosts of The Residency Podcast, he said, “It is, totally. Grown men, right? You’re not going to go up to them and be like, ‘Hey man! How’s the kids?’. Being 16 years old, I was probably as old as some of their kids. But it was fun, a lot of them were very – they were nice – They were welcoming. They asked me a lot of questions, like ‘How did you get your start?’ ‘How long have you been in it?’ ‘What have you been doing?’

“Like, they didn’t know a whole lot about me when I came in. So there was a bit of a learning curve on that and figuring out where I come from and what experience I had.”

Busch then added, “They were kind of shocked when they only knew that I was racing for two and a half years. A lot of these guys were racing for 10-15-20 years. Feel like they made it after 10 years or whatever, in the Truck Series. Then here I come with two and a half, so that was my welcome to NASCAR moment.”

Kyle Busch has come a long way in his career since then

The 2-time Cup Series champion is now a veteran of the sport, a far cry from 20 years ago. Currently, he is currently competing in his first season with a new team, Richard Childress Racing. This comes after a long and successful tenure with Joe Gibbs Racing, which sadly came to an end after the 2022 season. During that time, Busch delivered two Cup Series titles in the 2015 and 2019 campaigns.

There is also another interesting stat, that Busch has been consistently winning at least one race every season. This has been happening for the past 19 years, including the ongoing 2023 Cup campaign. In the process, he has broken a record that was set by the legendary Richard Petty. The best part is that the season is not over yet, so there are more chances for Busch to rack up more wins.
