This past month saw another confirmation of a rumor that did the rounds on the internet for quite a few days. Spire Motorsports announced the deal, confirming the news that they are buying Kyle Busch’s 13-year-old team and its assets. While the officials haven’t disclosed the figures yet, the 77,000-square-foot shop near Charlotte, the workforce, and the heavy machinery are now under Spire Motorsports’ ownership.
Kyle Busch Motorsports(KBM) has been one of the series’ most successful teams, nurturing and producing championship-caliber drivers like the Cup Series sensation William Byron, Christopher Bell, and Erik Jones. The million-dollar move will have Spire feature a third team in the Cup Series besides Corey Lajoie’s #7 and Ty Dillon’s #77 teams.
Spire’s masterstroke came after the team brought in Gainbridge Financial, a huge partner of Andretti Global, earlier this year. The team is set to expand to a 3-car team for next year’s Cup Series campaign after buying another charter for $40 million, which, along with KBM’s $30 million rough price tag, has put Spire Motorsport’s ambitions in this year’s biggest money games. But how is the Andretti family involved in all this?
Reflecting on the industry’s power brokers Jeff Dickerson and Thaddeus “T.J.” Puchyr’s million-dollar move, Dirty Mo Media production, Door Bumper Clear (DBC) gave the community a hint about Andretti’s possible NASCAR entry.
In the program’s spot-on segment, Kaulig Racing spotter Brett Griffin said, “There’s a lot of rumors going around, Andretti being involved in this right? Gainbridge more so than Andretti, Gainbridge is a billion-dollar company, right?“

With Spire attaining the resources and equipment from Busch, the involvement of Andretti is certainly a matter to speculate deeply on. Griffin continued his take by mentioning a tweet of his, saying, “Spire Motorsports, everything they’re doing right now, I tweeted something a long time ago, a few weeks ago rather, players make plays and somebody text me that some very high ranking official with another race team that money makes plays. Well, yes that’s true too and obviously, they got money.“

The past week’s news really came as a shocker for many fans, considering how successful Busch’s Truck Series team was. The 2-time Cup Series champion even had a ride set for him when he wanted to race trucks. While Busch’s deal certainly got him a lot of money and got the community talking, Griffin, in the podcast, cited the irony in the deal involving the “Rowdy.”
Mentioning Dickerson, who was at one point Busch’s spotter, and business manager, Griffin mentioned the irony. He said, “I did not get to see what Jeff Dickerson said and I’ve known Jeff for a very very long time, we were actually neighbors at one point, I didn’t get to see what he said in the little media session.”
Furthermore, he added, “But I did see the clip where he and Kyle (Busch) they’re talking which I thought was ironic because Dickerson used to spot for Kyle, he used to manage Kyle in a business manager role.”
