There are two types of owners – those who back their employees, and those who can pull the rug from under them at the first opportunity they get. A lot has been heard about the second group in recent times with Twitter seeing massive layoffs after Elon Musk took over. But Kyle Busch walks a different line, and he does that against all criticism.

The team has been competing in NASCAR’s Truck Series competition ever since its inception and has found loads of success in it. Starting from 2009, the team has won 7 Truck Series Owners’ Championships with the first of those 7 coming in 2010 and the last one in 2019.

An angry Kyle Busch had said earlier in 2017, “If the limit for the Truck Series goes to zero, I’m done. If I’m out there spending money but not allowed to drive… why am I spending money to evolve talent that’s going to replace me one day?” The statement came in response to NASCAR’s 2018 Participation Guidelines that limited drivers with more than 5 years of NASCAR Cup Series experience to just 5 Truck Series Races (and 7 Xfinity Series Races).

However, that did not happen. KBM continues to run in the Truck Series. Amid its recent slump in results, there have been suggestions to Busch to close down the operation. But Busch said “That’s not who I am. That’s not what we did. And that’s not who we’re going to be.” Kyle Busch wants to protect the 55 team members he has depending on KBM for their careers and lives.

It is a truly selfless and altruistic decision from the legend. Most would not think twice if they were bleeding dollars left, right and center but that’s not who Busch is and that’s not what KBM is.

Kyle Busch Motorsports has decided to switch to Chevrolet from their current Toyotas for their 2 drivers, Chase Purdy and Jack Wood. Apart from the switch, the team has also announced a technical alliance with Rev Racing going forward that will involve an entry for Nic Sanchez into the Truck Series.

On the decision, Busch said “Obviously, there will be a lot of change at KBM in 2023, but our goal as an organization remains the same that it always has been and that’s to go out and win races and provide the young drivers in our lineup everything they need to reach their full potential. We have the right people in place to be able to accomplish those goals for our two trucks.”
