There’s always a time and place for everything. A hoot of laughter ensued when Chase Elliott and his crew chief, Alan Gustafson, recently engaged in a friendly exchange of jokes on the “Bad Dad Jokes” segment of the NAPA network.

Behind the intense races and the pursuit of victory, there’s a camaraderie that exists between drivers and their crew chiefs. It’s a bond forged through countless laps of working together. But it’s also where some of the best dad jokes are exchanged.

The crew chief becomes a driver’s confidant, friend, and strategist, and the chemistry between them can be the difference between victory and defeat.

Chase Elliott and Alan Gustafson are known not only for their success on the track but also for their camaraderie off it. They occasionally make appearances on the “Bad Dad Jokes with Chase Elliott and Alan Gustafson” segment for the NAPA network, where they share some light-hearted moments.

In the latest segment, Chase Elliott, with a mischievous grin, decided to entertain the fans with a classic dad joke. He quipped,

“Let me tell you a dad joke. I’ll just have to check my Dadabase.” Alan Gustafson, not missing a beat, playfully responded, “That’s pretty corny.” Chase Elliott continued with another,

“What did the teddy bear eat for dinner?” To which Alan Gustafson replied, “I don’t know.” With a chuckle, Chase Elliott delivered the punchline, “Nothing, it was stuffed.”

 

While humor has its place, there are serious considerations, especially when it comes to trust and fairness within a team. And the run for Elliott for the 2023 season might not be yet over!

While Chase Elliott might not be competing for the driver’s championship this season, he’s still in contention for the owner’s championship. Winning this title would be a significant achievement for Rick Hendrick. And so the question arises: What will Chase Elliott receive if he secures the owner’s championship for Hendrick Motorsports?

During a recent interview, Elliott addressed this topic, stating, “We haven’t talked about it, but certainly with the precedent that was set last year, I would have to imagine there is experience in going through a situation like this.”

He continued, “We haven’t discussed it. It’s not a concern of mine and the reason is that Rick has always been extremely fair to me. He’s always treated me with a lot of respect as it pertains to HMS or beyond.” Chase Elliott’s trust in Rick Hendrick’s fairness and respect is evident. While the details of any potential rewards remain uncertain, Elliott’s confidence in his boss is praiseworthy.
