NASCAR has been the highest form of stock car racing for 75 years. Though the league cherishes its aggressive style of racing, it has also landed on rough terrains. After Sunday’s Cup race at the Circuit of the Americas, several fans as well as drivers and teams were left frustrated and many expressed their displeasure.
Earlier, Kyle Busch had mentioned how the sport has deteriorated to the degree where drivers can bump into each other expecting no repercussions and having no respect for each other. Similarly, Denny Hamlin too had talked about the lack of respect among drivers.
Now, Hamlin has come up with his stance on the type of racing that was seen on Sunday at COTA.

Denny Hamlin explains his stance in a recent conversation
In the aftermath of the race at COTA, former F1 champions Kimi Raikkonen and Jenson Button had been mildly critical of the aggressive racing style of NASCAR drivers. To this, Dale Earnhardt Jr’s manager Mike Davis fiercely defended the sport, saying, “Our sport has nothing to apologize for. We’re NASCAR! We are proud to deliver green-flag finishes.”
Our sport has nothing to apologize for. We’re NASCAR! We are proud to deliver green-flag finishes. We’re not scared to rack ‘em up 2 wide. Yes, we have flaws. One of them is we’d wreck our mommas to get the trophy. If that’s a problem, we’ll seek therapy one day. JMO. https://t.co/lDnaLRMfNk

Following Davis’s comments, Hamlin too discussed Sunday’s race on the Actions Detrimental podcast and mentioned how the sport is changing and how that’s giving it a bad reputation.
Speaking with co-host Jared Allen, Hamlin took Raikkonen’s and Button’s into context and said, “Listen, I mean contact is what our sport was built on for many many years.
But we’ve just taken it to another level and it’s getting to the not-good-to-look level.
So it’s interesting, Kimi obviously didn’t like it, you know, he called the bumper car. Jenson said this is not really what I thought it was going to be. Jordan Taylor said I hit everyone because they hit me. It was crazy to watch for sure.”
Hamlin acknowledged that being aggressive and making contact with rivals’ cars is the basic fabric of the sport, but he is of the opinion that the last race saw beyond that.

Denny Hamlin has always been the type of guy to speak his mind. This was witnessed a couple of weeks ago when he openly admitted that he had wrecked Ross Chastain intentionally. Even though NASCAR penalized him severely following his admission of guilt, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver was applauded by many fans and peers for his honest ways.

It must be acknowledged that despite his recent debacles, Hamlin is still an honest and truthful speaker, and it’s these qualities that have made his podcast popular.
