There are two pointers on Chase Elliott‘s to-do list at this moment. One, get Mr. H his owner’s championship trophy, and two, regain the lost momentum that crowned him the Cup Series champion a couple of years back. Both of these tasks seem to be going on quite well for the number 9 Hendrick Motorsports icon, one more than the other.

When he ousted JGR sensation Martin Truex Jr. out of the owner’s championship by clenching the 8th and ultimate spot in the points standings, HMS fans rejoiced and Joe Gibbs Racing fans wailed. But just the following week, things turned southwards for the 27-year-old. Being a fan favorite, Chase Elliott’s sorry fate didn’t miss the radar of his fans on Twitter either.

The Golden Boy of Hendrick Motorsports started Sunday’s race from the rear end of the field as a result of his crash during the practice for the South Point 400.

No more than 15 laps into the practice laps, Chase Elliott’s number 9 Chevrolet spun out and rammed hard against the outside wall at the 1.5-mile tri-oval track in Nevada. But how did this happen?

Replays revealed that the right-rear tire of his car went flat and hence resulted in his downfall. Such a pity; just before the crash, Elliott had flaunted the fourth fastest lap with a whopping speed of 185.459 miles per hour.

Back in Texas Motor Speedway, he had started 29th and at Talladega Superspeedway, 23rd. Unfortunately, this was the worst starting position for the Group A speedster during the playoffs.

There are instances when the side character of a movie could come in and take away all the applause that the protagonist deserves. And that was kind of what happened with the Chase Elliott car. But funny, the difference lies in just the color of the roof.

Elliott’s original car had a black roof. However, his backup car had an all-white roof with the number 9 in blue. And that seemed to attract all the attention.

A fan said, “For once, I actually want chrome numbers on the 9”

While someone wrote, “That actually looks badass. I love the Chrome 9 on it”

Another one typed, “I never liked this paint scheme. But seeing it on the back up car, It?s now one of the best schemes this season”
