Spire Motorsports’ purchase of the $40 million charter raised a lot of eyebrows in the NASCAR community. The amount of money that was spent on the charter was quite a lot and this is only the first investment that Spire recently made. Questions were also raised over the future of Kyle Busch Motorsports, the team acquired by them. NASCAR veteran Dale Earnhardt Jr recently shared his thoughts on the future of KBM.
Ever since the sale took place, fans had been speculating why Kyle Busch sold KBM after so many years in charge. While the Cup Series driver has given his reasons, a lot of fans don’t seem to buy into it. But now, when the team has already changed hands, the fans speculate that the new owners might just run KBM into the ground.

At the time of announcing the sale, Kyle Busch gave a lot of personal reasons as to why he sold his Truck Series team. The 38-year-old said that balancing his Cup Series schedule, his son’s racing schedule, and being there for this family left him with no time to tend to the needs of KBM.
The team was founded in 2010 by Rowdy, who has been at the helm for well over a decade. During his time as the owner, the team has become one of the most successful Truck Series outfits, winning 100 races and two Truck Series titles. It truly is the end of an era to see the team’s founder leave despite bringing them so much success.
As for the future of Kyle Busch Motorsports, there are big question marks. Former Cup Series driver Dale Earnhardt Jr spoke about the topic on a recent episode of the Dale Jr Download podcast. His views on the matter may not sound all that well to people who are fans of KBM.
Junior is unsure whether KBM will exist going into the future, as he raised some valid questions.
“Kyle Busch sold his truck team to Spire Motorsports. I guess my…not so much comment on that but what do you think is your curiosity of what’s next? Me? How much of KBM will continue on underneath the umbrella of Spire? Will they somewhat break it down into taking all the best parts and putting them into a smaller piece? Or will there be multiple trucks out there for Spire?” the former Cup Series driver asked.
“I know that the building itself will be a big benefit for them but of the truck operation…how many does Kyle have? 2? Three trucks. So how much of that is going to continue on years down the road?” he added.
The sheer cost of the charter is something that shocked a lot of NASCAR fans. Nobody was sure how Spire Motorsports’ owner Jeff Dickerson was doling out such a massive amount of money. Thankfully, eminent NASCAR journalist Bob Pockrass posed the question.

In an earlier press release, Bob Pockrass asked Jeff Dickerson how he was able to pay that kind of money. It would have made sense if he had an investor, but the shrewd Spire Motorsports owner gave a gray answer.
“Here’s what I hear. It’s not about the transaction; or the structure. I think what you are asking is are you guys for real? Or something must be going on behind the scenes there. From the first time that we announced the deal with the 78, I’m all for skepticism,” Dickerson said.
“I think some of it is healthy. I don’t know how many more of these deals we have to do before people know we are for real,” he added.
