Workaholics and drive-aholics, cut from the same cloth, just can’t sit still, can they? Take Kevin Harvick, for instance. It seems like the roar of a stock car engine is pumping through his veins. No wonder, mere days after hanging up his racing gloves, he’s already revving up for a comeback in the Xfinity series.

Imagine the scene: Harvick, back in the driver’s seat, sending shivers down the spines of his competitors. But for NASCAR fans? It’s like an early Christmas gift! They’re buzzing with excitement at the thought of their racing hero zooming past the competition, leaving everyone else eating his dust on the track.

In the world of NASCAR, retirements can be as fleeting as a pit stop – one minute a driver’s out, the next, they’re revving their engines for a comeback. But Kevin Harvick, the recently retired speedster, wasn’t keen on playing this typical on-again, off-again game. He even got a piece of golden advice from Mark Martin about hanging up his helmet.

On Dale Earnhardt Jr’s podcast, Harvick recalled Martin’s words of wisdom: “I think that’s one thing that Mark Martin was very clear on and he had the retirement tour and then unretired and raced several more years. He’s like, ‘Kevin, just make sure you race until you know, 100% that you’re done.’”

Yet, even with Martin’s advice echoing in his ears, Harvick seems to be juggling the idea of a return – but not to where you might expect. Contemplating a detour to the Xfinity or Truck Series, he might be looking towards Dale Earnhardt Jr, himself a retiree, for some insight. “I think that’s something I would have to lean on somebody like [Dale Earnhardt Jr] to say, ‘Is that worth doing it?’” Harvick mused in the interview with Earnhardt Jr as per forbes.com. He also added, “I think the Xfinity stuff is something – I want to make sure that I do a really good job for FOX. Until I get done with that, and once I get done in June and say, ‘Maybe we can fit this in; this looks like a good weekend and we could do it?’”

Harvick appears content with his retirement life, yet the mere mention of his possible return has sent fans into a frenzy. Just a hint of Harvick getting behind the wheel again is enough to set their hearts racing. Fans, after all, will always be fans, forever holding on to the hope of seeing their favorites back on track.

When Kevin Harvick, heeding Joe Girardi’s sage advice to hang up his jersey on his own terms, announced his retirement, fans braced themselves for a quieter NASCAR scene. But Harvick, possibly moonlighting as a commentator, isn’t enough for his ardent fans – they’re craving for more!

The moment these NASCAR enthusiasts caught wind of Harvick’s musings on Dale Jr’s podcast, they swarmed Reddit to unleash their excitement. One fan, caught in a mix of amazement and humor, quipped, “Mans retired for 1 week and already got bored,” while another philosophically noted, “Racers race. As much as they are ready for “retirement” the racer in all of them is why a one off or two happens.”

The comparisons to Mark Martin’s rollercoaster retirement journey weren’t far behind, with one fan remarking, “Well outside of Mark Martin,” only to be met with a witty response: “Mark retired like 87 times anyways, it’s fine.”

Another fan, diving deep into the psyche of retiring drivers, shared, “Yeah, I don’t think most want to quit racing altogether, but they get tired of the pressure from having to do constant sponsorship obligations and appearances, and 38+ weeks of traveling. I don’t know how they do it to be honest. Especially the sponsor stuff. It’s exhausting to even think about. The 3.5 hours in a racecar is probably the easiest part of their work week.”

Then there was the fan who saw Harvick as the savior of the Truck Series, boldly stating, “The truck series needs him.” And of course, there’s always that one super fan, barely containing their excitement: “THATS WHAT IM TALKIN ABOUT!”
