Motorsports have always been one such field where men have dominated this sphere. Although it has been a preconceived notion for years that motorsports are not meant for women. But slowly and steadily, this notion has been shattered, particularly in NASCAR, as women paved their way into the world of racing.
Since 1970, NASCAR has witnessed the ingress of female drivers trying to leave their footprints, just like their male counterparts, by participating in varied formats like NASCAR and IndyCar.
But making headway in one of the most competitive and physically demanding sports is anything but easy. From getting exposure to securing sponsors, female drivers have to face several roadblocks. Though things have changed in the due course of time. And Danica Patrick is one such driver who proved what it takes to be a winner in a male-dominated sport.

Danica Patrick makes an emotional revelation on her Instagram account
While there have been people who have advocated for the inclusion of more females in racing, there have been a few who voted against it—Richard Petty being one such dissenter. As revealed in a report published by ESPN back in 2006, he revealed, “I just don’t think it’s a sport for women and so far it’s proved out. It’s really not. It’s good for them to come in. It gives us a lot of publicity, it gives them publicity.”
But since then the world has transformed a lot, and so has NASCAR. There are full-time female drivers who compete in the Truck Series. And among the list of female drivers, it is Danica Patrick who has it to the highest level. She was the last driver who competed in the Daytona 500, back in 2018.
But the achievements of this former JR Motorsports driver do not stop there. She had created history after bagging the 2008 Indy Japan 300 and being the only female driver to do so to date. After putting up fierce performances, the star driver finally bid her farewell to racing in 2017.
But even after bidding adieu, the memories from the past still come to revisit in the present, through nostalgia and reminiscences. And apparently, Patrick is feeling such nostalgia as she posted a short clip on her Instagram.
In the photo, she posted a portrait of her father and her hugging each other. She also added the lines, “My fav pic ever…Dad and I when I got out of the car after my first Indy 500 and almost won.”
There can be no doubt that the parents are the biggest support system that a child can ever ask for. And Danica Patrick has got one of the best ones, who have guided and always had her back since the inception of her driving career.
