The NASCAR Cup Series 2024 season is heading into its business end. With just seven races until the end of the regular season, the competition for the lead is heating up. Not only that, but the race to make the playoffs is also too close to call for the time being. Kicking off the run of the last seven races, the Cup Series will head to the Nashville Superspeedway this weekend.

Given that the stakes are high, drivers will give it their all to grab all the important points during the Ally 400 race. However, if the drive to compete for their survival or continued dominance isn’t enough, the sound of $9 million in winning surely will motivate the drivers to bring in their A-game. NASCAR has managed to increase the payouts for their events compared to last year, a trend that is continuing for this Sunday’s race.

The 2024 Cup Series has received a good bump in TV ratings. Now that the broadcasting duties are with USA Network and NBC, it is good to see that the numbers are still steady and on an upward trajectory for the second half of the season. The inaugural Iowa Speedway race brought in 2.693 viewers on cable TV, making it the most-watched sports program on the weekend. Along with this increase in viewership, NASCAR has bumped the winner’s purse for each of the races.

Updating about the prize purse, Bob Pockrass via his X account shared, “Purses for Nashville Superspeedway weekend, incl all payouts for all positions, contingency awards, year-end pts fund and for Cup, charter payouts for competing each week and historical performance: Cup: $8,915,372, Xfinity: $1,420,381, Truck: $897,631.”

Last year, NASCAR shelled out $8,516,134 for the Cup race. But this year’s payout is edging closer to the $9 million mark, a $400,000 increase. However, the big surprise was a reduced payout for both Xfinity and Truck Series events. Last year, the purse for the Truck Series race was close to a million dollars, but this time around, it’s taken a hit. $897,631 is the purse for the Truck race. Whereas the Xfinity race takes a hit of $200,00, with the purse valued at $1,420,381.

  • If there were to be a championship-final race this weekend, everyone would put their money on Kyle Larson to win that race. That’s how good the HMS star has been so far in 2024. So, seeing him as one of the contenders to win this Sunday does not come as a surprise. Moreover, he is one of the only three drivers to have won the racetrack, so that adds to his case as a favorite for the win.
  • Ross Chastain—yeah, you heard it right—the melon man like Larson has been to victory lane at the Nashville Superspeedway. Furthermore, in his three starts at the racetrack, he has finished inside the top 5 places, including last year’s win. The No. 1 Trackhouse Racing Camaro hasn’t been the fastest on the track, but it has managed consistent results. With seven top-10 finishes to his name, this weekend’s race might just be the shot in the arm the driver requires to turn around his season.
  • Last but not least, Christopher Bell is that driver who can script a first Toyota win at the Nashville Superspeedway. The driver had a rather mixed bag of results during the early half of the season. However, now that the playoffs are closing in, Bell has found pace and consistency. His last five races resulted in top-10 finishes, including his two wins at Charlotte and New Hampshire. So keep an eye on him, as he might be onto something special here.

Chase Elliott, Denny Hamlin, and Ryan Blaney are also some notable players who can turn up and grab a win this weekend. Meanwhile, it’s just tough to see struggling drivers outside the cutline take home that vital result.
