NASCAR is portraying itself on the global stage. The upcoming NASCAR sports documentary series on Netflix, ‘NASCAR: Full Speed,’ is coming to the screens later in January. The series will comprise five insightful episodes of 45 minutes and emphasize the lives of drivers fighting for survival in the most exciting phase of a NASCAR season, the playoffs.
The latest NASCAR show on Netflix will revolve around the on and off-track experiences of 16 Cup Series drivers through the 2023 season. Netflix released the official trailer on January 24 after giving fans a glimpse of the show through a teaser trailer on January 10. With Dale Earnhardt Jr serving as an executive producer for the NASCAR documentary, the fans expect a touch of his finesse in the show.

Respect for drivers’ privacy triggered an extensive discussion before the docu-series production began. Despite the debate, nine of the playoff-qualified 16 drivers have featured in the show. 2023 Cup Series champion Ryan Blaney is joined by William Byron, Joey Logano, Tyler Reddick, Denny Hamlin, Bubba Wallace, Ross Chastain, Kyle Larson, and Christopher Bell.
The cast is an excellent blend of personalities with different paths to the playoffs. These drivers have also been some of the most followed Cup Series personalities, which puts their struggles in the spotlight for the fans. Apart from the chosen nine, Dale Earnhardt Jr is also a part of the cast and production team.
NASCAR: Full Speed release date
Netflix has finalized 30 January as the release date for NASCAR: Full Speed. This implies that the show’s popularity will also bring in some new fans for the 2024 NASCAR season, which begins just five days after the release of the series with the Busch Light Clash at the LA Coliseum. Taking an example from Formula 1’s rise as a sport after the release of Formula 1: Drive to Survive, NASCAR wants to introduce the world to a more unfiltered and passionate brand of racing.
Netflix’s interest in going deep into the off-track lives of drivers is another aspect of the NASCAR documentary that has the fans excited. Despite being one of the most benevolent sports in terms of fan service, the fans have yet to be acquainted with the immense pressure of fighting for progression in the playoffs. In a sport where being first is paramount, psychological challenges will also take center stage in the show.

Eminent journalist Marty Smith is one of the narrating voices in the NASCAR trailer. In one instance, he was seen applauding the profession of a race car driver as he said, “If you’re a race car driver, you have the opportunity to be hurt — or killed. And you do it anyway. Think about what a bada** that is.“
The production team behind the show is the pair of Word + Pictures and NASCAR Studios. The executive producer panel includes the talents of Connor Schell, Aaron Cohen, Ben Kennedy, Tally Hair, Matt Summers, and Tim Clark, along with Dale Jr. Following the official trailer’s release, NASCAR Senior VP and Chief Digital Officer Tim Clark made a bold claim.
“This is the most competitive form of motorsport on the planet. People are going to see it up close, and see the beating and the banging and the aggressiveness of the drivers, but also the skill of the drivers — and what they’re able to do with a race car [driving at] 200 miles an hour, around 38 other race cars, hitting the same spot for 400 miles.”
