The Circuit of the Americas race last Sunday was as dramatic as one could get. Tyler Reddick may have registered a win to his name but there were plenty of other things to talk about. Most notably, the talk of the hour is about late cautions and overtime. It has been the highlight of the 2023 season and has triggered a lot of displeasure all around. However, Chase Elliott Insider recently had a productive solution to it. Surprisingly, the fans give their blessings to it.
The green-white-checkered finish has divided views before and more so recently with the wrecks taking place in the NASCAR Cup Series. Tired by the same, Elliott’s close aide has offered something the fans are in favor of.

Over the years, NASCAR has implemented different approaches to going about the green-white-checkered rule. The current regulations involving overtime aren’t looking great with the wrecks taking place, especially in Turn 1. The wrecks not only change the outcome but also commercially result in millions of dollars.
The biggest dilemma here for NASCAR is how to bring an end to this. How do they go about with their regulations in the final stages of the race? Should they finish under yellow considering the risks involved with it? Well, Chase Elliott’s spotter Eddie D’Hondt has an answer to this.
Road courses 👉every caution after 2nd stage 👉lines up single file. It’s time to save these guys from themselves. This car is too strong vs old car thus enablin the end of the race restart slam jamin, & plowin thru, which will unfortunately👉continue. https://t.co/W5uImD79nQ

Out of all the approaches that experts around NASCAR have recently suggested, D’Hondt’s suggestion has looked quite lucrative to the fans. Furthermore, the NASCAR faithful wasted little time in agreeing with the Chase Elliott Insider.
I like this solution better than any other I've heard 💯. As long as these cars are as tough as they are and there are minimal consequences to hitting someone and being able to continue on. They will continue.

We are yet to see how NASCAR goes about these suggestions. Sooner or later, they will be forced to act on it and it’s best if they do it promptly given the mess it has created.

He spoke in detail about it on the latest episode of his podcast “Actions Detrimental”. There, he said, “I personally think, it’s a bad look [COTA events]. It shouldn’t take an hour to run the last two laps of the race, green flag laps of the race. I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say maybe we should explore single-file restarts.”
The three-time Daytona 500 winner also stressed how changing the rules mid-race is not a new phenomenon for NASCAR. He said, “Don’t act like our series is not afraid to change the rules in the middle of the race. They did during the dirt race couple of years ago.”
