From almost giving up on his dream to be a professional race car driver to picking up his first Cup Series win at the Phoenix Raceway, Chase Briscoe has come a long way. Hailing from a humble home in Indiana, he always knew that racing made him tick. And in his team owner Tony Stewart, he has someone who knows his state journey all too well.
Tony Stewart has been instrumental in guiding his fellow Indiana racer in the premier division of NASCAR Racing. Briscoe got the breakthrough he was looking for in 2015 in the ARCA Menards Series. This paved the way for future opportunities. Soon he would see himself competing against top drivers in the Xfinity Series where he notched up 11 wins and 54 top-ten finishes. And then the big opportunity came calling. Tony Stewart promoted Briscoe to Stewart-Haas Racing’s Cup Series team for the 2021 season and the latter hasn’t looked back since.
Stewart quickly took Briscoe under his wing which sowed the seeds of their relationship. The chemistry between the two was evident when the pair spoke about Briscoe’s journey and his initial struggles on Stewart-Haas Racing’s YouTube channel.
Briscoe said, “I mean that’s how my love for racing started in the first place. From an early age, I mean my dad was racing before I was even born so it was kind of the obvious thing. Every weekend we were always going to the racetrack and I just honestly fell in love with it. You know, I was always playing with cars and I was watching racing on TV, it was just kind of natural. Like that’s just all I really wanted to do.(…)
“I think for me you know, my family’s been in sprint car racing and dirt racing since the 70s. So we’re going on 60-something years now that we’ve just been into racing. So I think for me just naturally growing up around it kind of sparked that interest and then being around it as often as I was just made it easy to continue.”
Regardless, it was not all hunky dory for young Briscoe when he decided to move away from home as he was still figuring out his path, trying to make new connections and get that breakthrough he was dreaming about.

Moving places took its toll on a young Briscoe back in the day. Having just moved into a new state right after his high school, it was an uphill climb for him in the initial days. But he was determined to make his dream come true.
While narrating how his fortunes were contrasting to Tony Stewart’s, Briscoe added, “It was hard. You know, mine was totally different from yours, where you know when you came down here, you already had the contract. You had everything kind of figured out to a certain extent. Where with me, I kind of just moved right after high school on a hope and a prayer and just bounce around from couch to couch, and it was hard.”
