This weekend, the NASCAR paddock heads to Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval. Denny Hamlin will start on pole position for the road course race at the track. However, in the buildup to the race weekend, all eyes will be on the heavens, as rain could play spoilsport. In light of this, Clint Bowyer unleashed his cheeky side.
“I’m gonna sneak in there and put a plug in the tunnel so it’ll just flood and that way we can’t race until Monday when the sun is out,” joked Clint. On a more serious note, he observed, “I think if it does rain, boy, all hell is gonna break loose. There’s a lot of unknowns. I can say that — unknowns for all the above. Look out if it rains.”
Considering that this is the final race in the Round of 8 of the playoffs, the rain would up the difficulty tenfold. The 2.28-mile circuit is tough enough to master in the dry, but a wet track will be a different story.

Why is Clint Bowyer so worried?
Nature-wise, the track possesses tire-hopping chicanes, high-speed oval sections, and small run-off areas. According to Bowyer, the inclement weather conditions could turn the event into a race of attrition.

This could cause a wealth of problems like potentially foggy windshields, checking to see if the wipers work. All in all, the biggest concern will be visibility, with plenty of spray being kicked up.
It is worth noting that Bowyer has plenty of experience in wet road courses. To be precise, the veteran competed in a rainy Montreal road-course event in the NASCAR Xfinity Series a few years ago. He also has a fairly decent track record at the Charlotte Roval, so he could be in with a shout for a win. The #14 driver will start the race from the 14th place as he fights to secure his place in the NASCAR playoff Round of 8.
