Frustration led to almost a calamity and even led to a 911 call! Although the call did not go through, the actual reason will make you roll on the floor with laughter.
Going into the race at Charlotte, Bowman was fifth in the standings at +26 above the cut line and well-placed to qualify for the next round. The Charlotte Motor Speedway saw Alex Bowman put on a splendid run. He qualified for a Stage 2 win which ultimately led to him securing an 18th place finish. The season had been promising for Bowman and consequently, the Hendrick Motorsports driver found himself in the top 8 qualifying for the next round. But in a twist of events, Bowman lost his secured position. The No. 48 driver was disqualified from the run when post-race inspection found that his car was 17 pounds lighter. Due to a violation of the rules, Bowman ended up losing 27 points. He collected only 1 point to finish in the 38th position. This led to him losing his position in the Round of 8. Isn’t that a major bummer?
As disappointed as anyone would be, Alex Bowman did something hilarious! He was at his home when he received the update that he stands disqualified and has ended up losing his position in the top 8. In a fit of rage, he ended up tossing his phone into his pool. This was done out of frustration as Bowman was aware that his phone would not stop buzzing. After such an incident, all of us need some time alone right? However, Bowman has an iPhone that can pick up on the shock effect and it can assess any kind of emergency like a car crash. Anticipating a similar situation, the phone dialed 911. Luckily, due to a lack of network, the call did not go through.
Recollecting this funny incident, Bowman said, “It hit the bottom of the pool and I walked away and like 20 minutes later I’m like I should probably go get my phone out of the pool cuz you know iphones are waterproof… So when I say throw I kind of toss it as I walk inside cause’ I just, I knew my phone was about to start blowing and I didn’t want to see any of it at that point of time”. He funnily added, “Luckily, your phone doesn’t have service from the bottom of the pool so nothing came off it but I guess they have a new thing where they like to report that you’re in a car crash if the phone feels something. So yeah, that happened, it’s a true story so I guess you could write that I did it out of rage, but it’s just I didn’t want to see my phone”. After all, we all have our bad days and need a break from the world, right?

They issued an official statement which mentioned that the team did not meet the standards and it was purely unintentional. The aftermath led to Joey Logano climbing up the ladder and qualifying among the Top 8.

Bowman’s record at Vegas is hot or cold, with his last two races seeing him finish in a disappointing 18th and 35th. He will look to recapture his form from March of 2022 and 2023 where he got back-to-back podium finishes at Vegas. Overall the No. 48 has 6 top 20 finishes in 14 races at Vegas, including a win back in 2022.
Consequently, his practice session finished with Bowman securing the 10th fastest lap followed by a 29.693 seconds. Recollecting his fortune this week, Bowman said, “Most of the (bad) things that have happened in my life have ended up working out for the better. Everything kind of happens for a reason. So for me, on my side of things, I just want to move on and continue and be successful. We don’t have a shot at a championship anymore but still time to do good things for the rest of the season”.
