Does Bubba Wallace deserve the backlash, or are fans overreacting to his recent scuffle?

Bubba Wallace and Alex Bowman have a pretty complicated history. In 2019, at Charlotte Roval, Wallace was mad at Bowman for a mishap on the track. Post-race, in a controversial move, the 23XI driver chose to express his frustration by splashing water on his rival’s face while Bowman was in the midst of receiving medical attention. While Wallace’s anger can be understood, do you think it was the right time to do what he did?

Fast forward to the Chicago race and Wallace once again let his emotions get the better of him. He purposefully rammed into Alex Bowman, not during the race but in the cool-down lap–quite revengeful we’d say.

Bubba Wallace has yet to learn that there is a time and place for everything!

The Chicago race was a grueling test for all drivers- with the challenging road course, worsening rain conditions, and tough competition from Shane van Gisbergen. Every driver, going into the race, wanted just one thing—to win. However, Bubba had more reason than some to want it desperately. He still has to make it to the playoffs, and that surely adds plenty of pressure. But what he did out of anger is inexcusable, as many believe.

Alex Bowman had spun Wallace on turn 2, on the lap 25 restart. Bowman later clarified that it was a genuine mistake since he had issues with his windshield wiper. He said to NBC, “I have to apologize again to the 23 guys. I just messed up and was trying to get my windshield wiper on and missed a corner and ruined their whole day. I hate that and I’m still embarrassed by that.”

But Bubba Wallace then didn’t know better, and he was just out for blood for what happened. So after Bowman gave us the awesome win by outlasting Tyler Reddick and leading his car to the checkered flag, he went to the cooldown lap, and then Bubba Wallace sprang into action. So he came in and wrecked Bowman’s right front in retaliation for what happened on lap 25.

What’s your perspective on:

Does Bubba Wallace deserve the backlash, or are fans overreacting to his recent scuffle?

Have an interesting take?

Well, not only is this dangerous given that Bowman had his window net down, but it is also pretty damaging for Bubba Wallace’s reputation. This incident shadows his recent positive efforts, complicating his image and overshadowing the progress he’s made. And Bob Pockrass recently posted that NASCAR is currently reviewing the incident. He said, “NASCAR will review the incident on the cool-down lap where Bubba Wallace doored Alex Bowman. Any penalties would be announced midweek.”

While Bowman says no penalties are required as it was a small thing, NASCAR fans don’t think so. And they are growing tired of Wallace and his aggressive antics.

Fans bash Bubba Wallace for ‘possible hate crime‘ against Alex Bowman

Drivers’ aggressions and frustrations are understandable and are nothing new. Plus, door slams have happened plenty of times, with no repercussions. But this is different. Given that the window nets were down, the race was over, and maybe the seatbelt was out. It was just dangerous for Bowman. One fan highlighted that and said, Possible hate crime. Clearly attempted murder. Banishment is the only option.” While banishment is too severe, we cannot predict anything when it comes to such on-track antics.

Most drivers take the fight to the pit road, or they talk it out later. We saw the infamous fight between Kyle Busch and Ricky Stenhouse Jr and even that was out of the car and Stenhouse Jr waited on Busch. One fan said, Take your aggressions to Victory Lane/Pit road…”

And it’s not the first time Bubba Wallace has shown his aggression to Bowman. The 2019 incident has damaged Wallace’s image so badly that people still remember it. One fan said, Bubba is a repeat offender against Bowman. Let’s not forget September 2019.” As they say, one must know when to walk away, and the fact that Wallace didn’t seems like a huge mistake.

While Bowman feels guilty about his mistake and doesn’t want NASCAR penalizing Wallace, fans feel he should be fined. One fan said, “Fine that thug.” This just highlights how Wallace badly ruined his reputation yet again. Another fan comment echoed the same sentiment, and he said, “Sorry but Bubba should be fined..”

And some just feel that the fine bit has been tested and nothing seems to work on Wallace, so maybe bigger steps need to be taken. One user said,He’s been fined and suspended. Clearly that hasn’t worked. Now it’s up to @McDonalds and other sponsors to drop him. Then maybe he will learn.”

The NASCAR world is pretty upset about what went down between Bubba Wallace and Alex Bowman. As for Bubba, it feels like he’s getting hit from both sides. He has not yet made it to the playoffs and is now also facing severe backlash from NASCAR fans. Certainly not a good spot to be in. What penalties do you think will Bubba Wallace be charged with?
