Tony Stewart is no ordinary racer. Even at 52, the veteran has no plans to hang up his racing helmet. Besides owning a full-fledged Cup Series team, he co-owns the Superstar Racing Experience Series. Moreover, he also owns an entire race track called the Eldora Speedway in New Weston. But out of all his racing ventures, he has recently been seen engrossed in his drag racing endeavors the most, so much so that some of the NASCAR fans have even slammed him with claims about his apparent irresponsibility.

However, nothing stops Smoke from attaining newer heights in his eventful life. From owning monkeys and pigs to binge-watching The Big Bang Theory, this man does it all. Unfortunately, he fell marginally short of adding another title to his resume. Nevertheless, he must have found some solace in the fact that his wife did what he couldn’t.

A bright Sunday morning in Dallas witnessed Stewart’s wife Leah Pruett and Matt Hagan bringing Tony Stewart Racing, a new title. And it was Tony Stewart’s first-ever nitro sweep in Top Fuel and Funny Car.

Holding off point champions Shawn Langdon and Doug Kalitta, to advance into the finals, Pruett shot an absolute home run by flaunting a 3.684-second run at 330.47mph in her Mobil 1 dragster, defeating Steve Torrence in the championship round. To Tony Stewart’s utter glee, Pruett now leads Kalitta by 4 points with 2 races left in the season.

According to RACER.com, Pruett and Hagan had a brief conversation about their respective strategies in the staging lanes. Both agreed that it’s staying focused that they needed and nothing else. Pruett said, “I just made sure I was focused on what I could do to get the best performance out of my car. (Now) we’re going to try to do what Tony Stewart Racing does best and that’s to keep winning.”

Even Matt Hagan maintained his stronghold of the Funny Car class. Defeating John Force and winning his second straight event, Hagan put up a blazing speed of 332.25 mph over a duration of 3.883 seconds in his American Rebel Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat. This was Hagan’s 6th win of the season and also the 49th win of his career. Moreover, the victory pushed him to the topmost seat in the points’ standings.

“It’s a dogfight in Funny Car,” admitted Hagan. “It’s just that tough out there. My team put a great car under me and I’m just super proud of them.”

“It says a lot about what our team is doing and how great Tony Stewart is as a team owner,” he added.

A good day for Tony Stewart’s team indeed. However, the man himself failed to grab the win in the NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster championship in Dallas, after he lost to a much younger Norway native.

NASCAR Hall of Famer was milliseconds behind Julie Nataas, who won her first TAD championship in the NHRA Fall Nationals near Dallas. He could have been the only driver to have ever won titles in NASCAR, IndyCar, and NHRA, but that dream didn’t quite turn into a reality after he had to settle for a P2 finish.

However, for Nataas, the moment was emotionally overwhelming. The third-generation driver has been following the footsteps of her father since she was just 9. During a post-race interview, she tried her best to hold off tears as she dedicated her success to her father.

“Everything I have done has led up to this.” she said, “My dad getting me into Junior Dragster at 9 years old, going drag racing on the weekends and after school during the weekends we would (do) GoKart racing…”

“He’s here every weekend, he’s here now. It’s so surreal, it really really is,” she added with tears of happiness rolling down her cheeks.
