It was an overtime victory for Kyle Busch after he was able to escape the wreck that occurred in the final lap between Ryan Blaney and Bubba Wallace. In the spring race at Talladega, the 2x Cup Series champion was able to crystallize his place as one of the strongest Cup Series championship contenders and also gift a second victory to his new team Richard Childress Racing.  

However, fast-forwarding to the playoff scenarios, the former champion is on the verge of being eliminated after a series of mishaps that have mired his championship run. Although the driver was able to advance to the Round of 12, both the races in the second stage proved to be a heartbreak for Busch. The Cup Series paddock is set to land at the Charlotte for the next race. Owing to this NASCAR insiders try to lay a blueprint for the driver in order to redeem himself and safeguard from elimination.

The Richard Childress Racing driver had entered Talladega already standing below the cutline after he suffered a wreck in Texas. Although he started 6th in the race he spun out in Stage 1 of the race, slamming into the retaining wall and sustaining irreparable damages on the rear of his car. 

A similar incident was on the verge of occurring on the track of Talladega after Ricky Stenhouse Jr stumbled on fuel. However, Busch was able to dodge the wreck, while Ross Chastain got entangled in the wreck and finished 36th. Nevertheless, the RCR driver was able to lead for two laps and finished 25th. He now sits 26 points below the cut-off line. In order to qualify for the Round of 8 and to keep the championship hopes alive, the only feasible option that the driver has left is victory.

Owing to this, renowned journalists Jeff Gluck and Jordan Bianchi tried to lay forth the roadmap for Kyle Busch to redeem himself, for the final race of the round. Jeff Gluck, in the latest episode of The Teardown, expressed, “I think he has got to win that race. I would almost forget stage points if I were them and go straight up for the win and let the other playoff drivers get try to get stage points and just say, ‘Hey we have to go win.”

Jordan Bianchi then added, “And especially because everybody’s kind a condensed like the four guys that are outside of the cutoff right now the other three are relatively they are in a position to strike points wise like 9 points and you are gonna have to hop those guys as well, so I do think that you are right when you say you are gonna have to be the opposite.”

However, it would be a daunting task for Kyle Busch to earn a victory on the road course, given his past performance on the road courses. His last road course win was notched in Sonoma back in 2015. Nevertheless, in his post-race interview in Talladega, Kyle Busch expressed, “When I could make moves, get in good positions and put myself in good spots, I could get up towards the front. My chess match is apparently horrible or I get hung-out every time it comes down to the end and we just lose spots.”

About the upcoming race at Roval, Busch expressed, “That’s our last shot, so we’ll see what we get.”

Having said that, it will be interesting to see how Kyle Busch is able to road course track and compete for his third championship run. It will be interesting to see if Kyle Busch be able to make a comeback and clinch the championship for the team boss Richard Childress in his first year with the team.
