In the late 2000s, many thought Brad Keselowski could be a top prospect for Hendrick Motorsports. He won the Aaron’s 499 at Talladega for Phoenix Racing in 2009, being a full-time Nationwide series driver for Rick Hendrick with the number 25 GoDaddy Chevy. Had Mark Martin not come back to HMS, maybe Keselowski would have had a different future at the most coveted team in NASCAR. However, we all know that did not happen as Brad transitioned into Team Penske, where he stayed for the majority of his career.

Now as the co-owner of RFK Racing, Brad is certainly achieving great heights. The extent to which he is taking his team also impressed his former boss at HMS. While talking to Nate Ryan of NBC Sports, the latter revealed why he adores the Ford icon so much.

Brad “sees things differently, definitely goes to the beat of his own drum,” says a former HMS legend

Former crew chief for Hendrick Motorsports, Steve Letarte said that Brad was different from the others in the best possible way. Brad is someone who makes his teammates feel at home and hence, is an avid team player. Coming from someone like Letarte, this is indeed a big compliment.

As a team owner, it is crucial to not get influenced easily and to keep one’s head cool while guiding the team forward. According to Steve, Brad is a guy who can do that perfectly. He said, “He (Brad)sees things differently, definitely goes to the beat of his own drum,”

Currently working for NBC Sports for the live coverage of NASCAR Cup and Xfinity Series races, Letarte admitted that he asks for Brad’s opinions regarding his own broadcasts.

He said, “I’m not afraid to say this publicly; he’s one of those guys that I reach out to periodically to say hey what do you think of the broadcast? Did I have everything you’re thinking on strategy or this or that..”

Someone with a reputation like Steve Letarte would probably not ask for opinions from just anyone and everyone. As a commentator, Letarte explained that his target audience is the fans. However, he gets unbiased opinions whenever he talks to Brad Keselowski. And that is the reason he values the ideas of the former Team Penske speedster.

“Brad usually gives you an honest, intellectual answer… Man I thought you had it pretty good, or I liked the segment, or didn’t like the segment. Not that, that sways our broadcast, but I value his opinion, I always have,” he acknowledged.

Fans are praising the RFK co-owner, along with Chris Buescher, for their two consecutive victories
