2023 has been a year of breakthroughs for certain drivers like Ryan Blaney and the call for the retirement of veterans such as Kevin Harvick. But there was one driver who had to face an off-track tragedy so twisted he’s yet to fully recover from it. Jimmie Johnson’s world was turned upside down earlier this year when he received shocking news about the death of his in-laws and their 11-year-old grandson, who were all found dead in an apparent murder-suicide.
After the tragic turn of events, Legacy Motor Club, which is co-owned by Johnson, elected to pull out of racing events to respect the family’s privacy. Fortunately, the dark clouds have somewhat lifted for Jimmie Johnson’s fans, after an announcement from AdventHealth about Johnson’s return for three races in the 2024 season caught everyone off-guard.

Legacy Motor Club will team up with AdventHealth in 2024 to support Erik Jones in the #43 Toyota Camry XSE in six Cup Series races. This includes the season opener at the iconic Daytona International Speedway. Alongside Jones, the seven-time Cup Series Champion is also set to make his return to the No. 84 car for three Cup Series races in 2024.
Fans can witness Jimmie Johnson compete with the AdventHealth livery at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, Texas Motor Speedway, and the Kansas Speedway. Earlier this year, it was also rumored that Jimmie Johnson could compete at Indianapolis and Daytona. Unfortunately for those getting their hopes up, these races were not mentioned anywhere in the announcement.

Johnson seemed to be in good spirits after a dismal year. He was quoted in a NASCAR press release. “This is a wonderful day for LEGACY M.C. AdventHealth believes health should be measured in terms of the whole person – body, mind, and spirit. This partnership is a natural fit for our Club and I know we will do great things together. I can’t wait for this season to get started.”
The President/CEO of AdventHealth, Terry Shaw, was equally excited about the partnership with Johnson and Erik Jones. He shared, “AdventHealth has been a sponsor in the sport since 2015 and we appreciate the opportunity to provide care for this team and the passionate NASCAR fan base. Together we can make a tremendous impact in our communities and ensure more people have the opportunity to access whole-person care.”
