If you are in denial about climate change, come to California.” Fuelled by powerful winds and parched conditions, relentless wildfires have engulfed California. These devastating blazes swept across the Los Angeles area, destroying thousands of structures and claiming at least 27 lives. The fires, including the Palisades, Eaton, and Hurst blazes, consumed vast land and displaced nearly 200,000 residents. While emergency responders worked tirelessly to contain the flames, the scope of destruction was immense. Some reports claim that insured damages potentially exceeded $20 billion, while total losses are estimated at $50 billion.

As Californians struggle to recover from this unparalleled disaster, NASCAR has stepped forward to bring relief and support to the affected communities. The biggest Stock Car Racing organization has joined hands with multiple local bodies to help the victims of the devastating fire.

NASCAR joined forces with Los Angeles sports organizations and Fanatics to raise funds. The goal is to support wildfire victims and first responders. The campaign provides resources to those who lost their homes and helps firefighters on the front lines. The centerpiece of this campaign is the launch of LA Strong merchandise, featuring NASCAR-branded apparel. Fans can purchase the products directly through Fanatics’ dedicated LA Strong website. Every item sold directly contributes to relief efforts, with proceeds going to the American Red Cross and the LA Fire Department Foundation to ensure the funds reach those in dire need.

Notably, Fanatics and its league partners have vowed not to profit from this initiative. “Fanatics, Leagues, and participating sports organizations will not profit from the sale of the LA Strong merchandise and will make a donation directly to the American Red Cross and the LA Fire Department Foundation. The American Red Cross provides assistance to those affected by these fires, and the LA Fire Department Foundation provides much-needed support and equipment to first responders,” NASCAR said in a statement.

NASCAR’s donations will be a crucial factor in rebuilding the lives of all those affected by the wildfires. With over 12,000 structures damaged and 27 people dead, the scale of damage is unprecedented. In fact, with some fires now under control, the true scale of the damage is now being unearthed. 150,000 people were under orders to evacuate, with 700 forced to take refuge in shelters.

This is not the first incident in which NASCAR has gone over and above to support the victims of natural disasters. Earlier, in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, NASCAR spearheaded a $12 million recovery initiative in North Carolina. This effort involved the delivery of temporary tiny homes to displaced families. Now, with the LA Strong Campaign, NASCAR continues its efforts to support the social cause. The broader NASCAR family, including drivers, teams, and others, has joined the cause.

One of the biggest examples has been NASCAR driver Garrett Smithley’s father. While he’s not making donations, he’s fighting the fires on the frontline, piloting a plane in winds that reach speeds of up to 95 mph.

Drivers and Teams Also Rally for Relief Efforts

NASCAR’s wildfire relief efforts are not limited to merchandise sales. Several drivers, teams, and entities have joined forces to bring additional aid to California. NASCAR legend and vice president of Hendrick Motorsports urged fans to contribute to trusted relief organizations. In a special message to fans, California Native said, “Families have lost their homes, and lives have been lost. First responders are risking their lives, and so many people are enduring unimaginable hardship.”

Gordon, along with Hendrick Motorsports, shared links to both international and local relief funds. Meanwhile, teams like Joe Gibbs Racing and Trackhouse Racing have launched fundraisers and pledged to match fan donations. These organizations have also encouraged race attendees to bring non-perishable items and clothing, which are then sent to California shelters.
