NASCAR marked its entry into Hollywood with the 1990 film “Days of Thunder,” starring Tom Cruise. Following its box office success, years later, NASCAR once again took to Netflix “NASCAR: Full Speed.” Premiered about three weeks before the Daytona 500, this series focused on the lesser-known sides of the lives of NASCAR drivers.
While also covering their on-track actions, the docuseries featured lifestyles, families, rivalries, and the pursuit of the drivers’ victories. The opportunity to witness the raw, unfiltered versions of NASCAR drivers, made Full Speed a grand success. Owing to its success, NASCAR is once again set to return to Hollywood with a rom-com. This time backed by Amazon, worth $8.5 billion.

This would only be possible if she could also reform Piper’s reclusive father, Matthew Kyte, a former NASCAR champion who infamously walked away from the sport and hasn’t been seen in four years. The rom-com is written by Alison Rose Greenberg. Clean Air will be produced by Will Smith, Jon Mone, and Dan Marcus on behalf of Westbrook Studios.

With this deal in hand, NASCAR is thus aiming at attracting the younger population to the likes of the sport. This is to be made possible by exclusively streaming five NASCAR Cup Series races during the early summer. These races conclude the first half of the Cup season. It also covers the pre-race and post-race programming, and fan highlights, and gives an analytic study ahead of all of the action on the track. Prime Video will also offer exclusive coverage of practice and qualifying for the first half of the NASCAR Cup Series season (excluding the Busch Light Clash, DAYTONA 500, Duel at Daytona, and NASCAR All-Star Race).
NASCAR’s Hollywood return with Amazon’s acquisition thus underscores the sport’s resilience and its ability to bring in audiences across diverse platforms.
