Rick Hendrick had to miss the NASCAR Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway due to a knee replacement surgery. He was set to drive the pace car as part of HMS’s 40th-anniversary celebration, but this unforeseen circumstance prevented this special appearance. But that doesn’t mean the longtime team owner can’t be a part of the celebration! Well, it’s like they say: If you can’t go to a party, bring the party to you. And that’s exactly what happened when the HMS bandwagon decided to surprise Hendrick at his house!
Rick Hendrick and his family were taken aback
Hendrick stepped out to see that his HMS team members had gathered outside his residence. Being met with a well-deserved round of applause, a puzzled Rick Hendrick asked everyone, “What are you guys doing here?” The reason for their visit was amply clear as Hendrick Motorsports’ X page shared the video in which a team member was seen replying, “You couldn’t come to Victory Lane so we brought Victory Lane to you!”

Even the video’s caption exuded the same emotion: “They weren’t able to be there Sunday, so we brought victory lane to them on Monday. Congratulations on 40 years, Mr. and Mrs. H!”

Indeed, an amazing idea to make the man responsible for all this have a great day! We understand how badly Rick Hendrick wanted to be at Martinsville on race day. Notably, when Geoff Bodine won the first race in the history of HMS in 1984 at Martinsville, Hendrick couldn’t be present back then either as he and his wife had some engagement with the church.
That win though was the start of a very special journey of Hendrick Motorsports. Till date, they won 29 races at the Virginia-based track, creating another record. Let’s have a quick recap on how the boys performed on their team’s 40th anniversary.

On their special day, the current HMS drivers put up a massive show and stole all the limelight. The race ended with 1-2-3 positions, all going to HMS. William Byron won the third race of this Cup Series. He was followed by current Cup Series topper Kyle Larson, and Chase Elliott. Alex Bowman was not far behind at P8. This unreal dominance from HMS drivers eventually received widespread attention and praise from all over the NASCAR community.
