NASCAR is a sport that is steeped in tradition and the racers value that history. This explains why many drivers often compete with retro or throwback liveries. Back in 2014, Bubba Wallace decided to jump on the bandwagon to pay tribute to his hero, Wendell Scott. As the sole African-American driver in the sport at the time, Scott was obviously going to be Wallace’s idol.
So in the 2014 Kroger 250 at Martinsville, Wallace drove a Kyle Busch Motorsports Toyota with Scott’s iconic #34 number on it. Interestingly, The driver was supposed to race with the #54 number but managed to get approval to change it to #34. As for the race itself, he was pretty dominant, leading a grand total of 97 out of 200 laps.

This race win was pretty special for Bubba Wallace
Other changes to the truck included it having a light blue paint job. In addition to that, it had the letters “Mechanic: Me” on the side, just like Scott’s car. Bubba Wallace was also thrilled to learn that Scott’s family was on hand to see Wallace’s historic victory. He said, “That was so fun, man. Martinsville’s my favorite place to come to. With the whole Wendell Scott family here, this is a special moment, a perfect weekend for us, man. It’s a true honor to have Wendell Scott on our Toyota Tundra and to be able to put it in Victory Lane. I know he just said, ‘Hell, yeah,’ up there, so this is as cool as hell.”
Now the big question is, can Bubba Wallace reach Victory Lane again this weekend? The 23XI Racing driver is returning to racing action after serving a one-race suspension. This was because he intentionally wrecked Kyle Larson in retaliation for something that Larson did to him. So, this race will be Wallace’s redemption song and a chance to get back in everyone’s good graces.
