What can’t Kyle Larson do? Well, probably many things – but in the motorsports world, this question may take months to answer properly. The Cup Series star has already led a phenomenal journey in NASCAR. Last year, he picked up 6 race victories and was, according to many loyal fans, the deserving 2024 champion. Now he is preparing to rock a foreign country as well – after another NASCAR legend failed to do so.

Two-time Cup Series champion Kyle Busch did not have a great season. He broke his 19-year streak of winning besides accruing 8 DNFs. Along with that, the Richard Childress Racing driver also could not pursue his Supercars ambition in 2024. Now Larson is beating Busch to that as well.

When we hear about Supercars we generally remember a certain Kiwi. Shane van Gisbergen whipped up a storm when he won his debut NASCAR race in the 2023 Chicago Street Race. He also happens to be a three-time Supercars champion, having fetched 80 race wins. Now it is time to flip the script and send along a versatile NASCAR driver to the Australian series. Kyle Larson’s dynamic racing prowess has shown itself multiple times. He is a champion dirt racer, having won 37 races in The World of Outlaws, 29 in All-Star Circuit of Champions, and many more. Most recently, he made a successful trip to Perth, Australia.

Kyle Larson competed at the three-night High Limit International event at Perth Motorplex. And he won the renowned sprint event – winning $100,000. Now the Hendrick Motorsports ace is ready to level up – plans are underway for his Supercars debut. Larson confessed his preference to run both a Supercar and a Sprint car at Adelaide to Speedcafe. “It’s definitely on the radar. Nothing is set in stone yet. There’s talks kind of starting but still a lot to work through. I for sure want to get there and run the Supercar, but more than anything I want to get there and run the Sprintcar because just the atmosphere, racing in the city is really cool.”

This development comes after Kyle Busch‘s plans to run in Adelaide fell through. Triple Eight, Supercars, and Adelaide 500 organizers put their heads together to have Busch compete in both the Supercars and Super2 races. However, the RCR Cup Series driver had to pull the plug due to off-track commitments back home in the US. The South Australian Motorsports Board issued a statement in August 2024, throwing up a possibility for Busch in the future. “Due to timing and commitments, having an international Supercars Wildcard at the VAILO Adelaide 500 is being explored for 2025.” Yet even before Busch could jump back into this effort, Larson is here.

And the HMS star is very determined as well.

Is Kyle Larson the most versatile driver in motorsports today, or is there someone better?

Have an interesting take?

He is not scared of ‘new’ things

The field is very competitive in Supercars, with the V8-powered racers driving in a unique way. With street circuits relatively new in NASCAR, the Adelaide circuit is bound to be difficult. Although we are talking about Kyle Larson here. The legendary racer became the fifth driver in 2024 to attempt the Double. Spanning 1100 miles, it comprises running both the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 on the same day. If the troublesome weather had not got in his way, Larson may have made our jaws drop. A Formula One opportunity is also in the rumor mills, although some people discourage it. So Larson is ready to take up the Supercars challenge: “I like trying to learn things, quickly.”

Even while harboring confidence, Kyle Larson was also humble. Shane van Gisbergen is a legendary Supercars racer, and we have seen his indomitable road racing talent in NASCAR. He picked up three Xfinity race wins in 2024, all at road courses. So Larson hailed his and his Supercars peers’ talents. “Obviously I would not expect to run very good because Shane van Gisbergen, he came in [to NASCAR] and kicked all of our buts. So I know these Australian racers and Supercars drivers are extremely good. So I would not be surprised to run last. But just being part of the experience would be a lot of fun.”
