For a while, there has been a lot of debate about the Next Gen NASCAR car. With three drivers out of action due to injuries, many of their contemporaries are growing concerned. Chief among them are veteran racers, Denny Hamlin and Kevin Harvick. Obviously, NASCAR would not take the comments lying down, but Hamlin and Harvick have been very outspoken. Very recently, Harvick and Stewart-Haas Racing got into a spot of trouble.
Owing to illegal modifications, NASCAR suspended crew chief Rodney Childers for four races. At the same time, they fined the team and docked 100 points from Kevin Harvick. At the time, Harvick’s car was in the R&D Center, alongside Martin Truex Jr’s, ahead of Talladega. Of course, conspiracy theories arose, with suggestions that this was revenge for Harvick’s critical comments.

How did NASCAR respond to the Kevin Harvick insinuation?
Of course, NASCAR president Steve Phelps rubbished such notions. He said, “I would say it’s ridiculous. No one has a vendetta against Kevin Harvick or Rodney Childers at all. Or Stewart-Haas Racing. That’s a ridiculous statement. Our (officials) are going to look at it, look at it again, look at it a third time to make sure that if there is a penalty given, that penalty is right. If the #4 team thinks that is not right, they will file an appeal and we’ll go through the appeal process.”
In light of the penalty, Stewart-Haas Racing is not going down without a fight and lodged an appeal against the penalty. Sadly, it still means that poor old Childers will be missing in action this weekend at the Charlotte Roval. If all goes well, he could be back for the next race of the season. On the other end of the spectrum, if NASCAR stands by its ruling, he will have to wait until Phoenix to take over crew chief duties.
