Kyle Larson has kept busy despite his suspension. The driver joined the World of Outlaws series and has just taken his 7th victory in 2020 at Iowa. However, he still has some unfinished business in the world of NASCAR.

The six-time race winner was considered one of the most promising free agents for the coming season. Unfortunately, he wrecked his own chances when he used a racial slur during an online racing event.

This came back to bite him hard, as several sponsors deserted him and the Chip Ganassi Racing team dismissed him. Since then, Larson has competed in dirt track racing, though he is holding out hope for his former employers to reinstate him.

Recently, FOX Sports’ Bob Pockrass spoke to Mark Rushbrook, Ford’s Global Director of Motorsports. The two discussed the possibility of Larson joining one of their teams.

Suffice to say, Rushbrook’s answer may not have been a definite yes, but he didn’t slam the door shut either.

Where can Kyle Larson go?

One possible option on the table is Stewart-Haas Racing, alongside current championship and favorite, Kevin Harvick. The four-car team has two vacant seats, and free-agent Aric Almirola is eager to return.

It is possible that Larson could take over the vacant No. 14 Ford, the car that Tony Stewart drove to his 2011 championship run.

Since Stewart’s departure, the organization’s trophy cabinet has looked a little light, having barely clinched three wins in 247 races. Therefore, the outfit is eager to end its winless streak and scout the best free agents.

In fact, Tony Stewart told Racer that he is keeping a keen eye on Larson.

Another possible destination is the Richard Petty Motorsports team if Bubba Wallace bails in the offseason. Admittedly, six career wins are nothing to write home about, but it obscures Larson’s effort.

According to Motorsports Analytics, Larson is worth $7.3 million, but the pandemic forced a near 30 to 40 percent cut. If Kyle Larson can rope in some sponsors, the Stewart-Haas Racing team can take him on as their ward.
