Ever since Dale Earnhardt Jr has hung up his firesuit to pick up the NBC mic back in 2017, fans have been eager to see the NASCAR Hall of Famer get behind the wheel of a stock car now and then. And it recently happened. Friday night witnessed the 15-time Most Popular Driver, Dale draping himself up in a white firesuit and driving the #88 Chevrolet.

Despite receiving a DNF due to an on-track mishap with 29 laps to go, Dale Earnhardt Jr seemed to still have it in him. Good for him and his team, Justin Allgaier of JR Motorsports won the race and advanced to the round of 8 of the Xfinity playoffs. However, what Dale Earnhardt Jr did after Allgaier won attracted the most attention of the community.

At 48, Dale Earnhardt Jr. posed strong competition to every other driver on the grid. He led 47 laps of the 1 hour 52 minutes and 11-second long race. Unfortunately, his car caught fire, and he exited the race early with burned pants. The two-time Xfinity Series champion watched the rest of the race from the infield care center. Not the end that he had expected for sure.

Although the day ended poorly for the owner, the #7 Chevy star clenched his 3rd Xfinity Series victory of the season and the 22nd of his career. After the race was over, Dale Earnhardt Jr hopped into the driver’s window with Justin Allgaier still sitting in the driver’s seat.

Allgaier’s dad took the passenger seat. And the Camaro accelerated slowly to the victory lane with Junior arriving at the celebration are in style. To his utter excitement, Dale Junior even banged the roof of the car as the crowd started cheering and clapping.

A rather marvelous spectacle right there, don’t you think?
