It’s funny how just a single win can get drivers’ tails up in the NASCAR Cup Series. While teams like Joe Gibbs Racing and Hendrick Motorsports make winning races easy, in reality, that’s not the case. And someone like Brad Keselowski would know how sweet a victory feels after a winless streak that lasted three years.

Keselowski’s win at Darlington Raceway was a huge turnaround for the veteran driver. He has secured his qualification into the playoffs, but it seems like the driver of the #6 Ford and his team are hungry for more. With consecutive top 5 finishes, race-winning speed, and getting back into contention for the title, it’s fair to say that the No. 6 RFK Racing team is flying high. This was visible in Keselowski’s recent show of confidence as he backed himself to win this year’s street course race in Chicago.

Watch out! Bad Brad is back in his element

Of all the big-name Ford drivers, Brad Keselowski perhaps has been the most consistent and promising one. Just a single win to his name surely does not justify the close calls he had in winning the races in 2024. Before his win, he had two runner-up finishes; perhaps he could’ve won at Talladega had it not been for a late wreck and cheeky moves by Tyler Reddick.

So it’s not the case that he got lucky in a one-off race; his season’s run so far speaks volumes about his team’s capabilities and the return of his confidence. So much so that he has now predicted his next win will come at the Chicago Street race. “So in NASCAR, winning is everything. It locks you into the playoffs when the playoffs start this September, which is a good feeling, right? … Here’s the thing about winning, when you win once now you’re just like you want to do it again. So I have that opportunity to come back and do it in Chicago.” Keselowski said this via WGN News.

The inaugural street race at the Wind City certainly was a huge success, as Mother Nature had her say in the proceedings. While the much-awaited concerts were canceled, the drivers had to get done racing with just 75 laps. However, this time around, Keselowski is hoping for better racing conditions that could aid in him getting his second win of the season.

“Lightning surely can’t strike twice, right? So it’s not going to rain again, right? Well, you know I love Chicago in the summer. What a beautiful town. And of course, the community embraced us, and the love we got was phenomenal. Kind of a once-in-a-lifetime event, glad to be a part of. Whether you’re a fan or a race car driver, so it’s exciting to get to come here,” Brad Keselowski further added.

His hunger to win at Chicago isn’t just a warning shot for the rest of the competition, but a personal milestone. Even after all that he has achieved in his career, he is yet to reign supreme in NASCAR’s modern-day challenge.

Keselowski is still on a hunt for a road-course victory

The veteran driver has pretty much won everything there is to NASCAR racing with over 500 Cup Series starts. He already has 26 victories and 18 pole wins to his name; not to forget, he conquered NASCAR’s highest peak in 2012 by winning the Cup Series championship. These wins came at the traditional oval and superspeedway tracks, but he is still looking for his first road course win.

It’s not that Keselowski hasn’t won a NASCAR race in Chicago; he has two NASCAR Cup wins at the Chicagoland Speedway, back in 2012 and 2014. However, those were traditional oval races, but now that NASCAR is back in town, he can fulfill his objective of winning a road course race. “I want to keep going; I want to win at a track like Chicago road course, I’ve never won on a road course. I’ve won at all the other types of tracks, so it will be a nice box to check.” He said this in an interview with CBS Chicago.

He does have a point to prove. And going by their strong performances this season, it’s hard to rule him out as a contender to win this year’s Chicago Street race.
