Rivalries between drivers in motorsports have been around since the dawn of time. In fact, it appears that audiences eat up the on-track rivalries and go to bat for their favorites, whether it’s Matt Kenseth going head-to-head with Carl Edwards, Denny Hamlin squaring off against Ross Chastain, or Scott McLaughlin locking horns with Shane Van Gisbergen. The viewers have always appreciated the series-ending clash between the opponents, despite their present circumstances.
Kevin Harvick, a veteran of NASCAR who has participated in more than 1100 races at NASCAR’s top two levels and more than 800 Cup Series races, recently discussed one of the similar feuds. When asked who he would want to see in NASCAR competing against each other, he spoke about the rivalry between the two Supercars champions this time.

The feud between Scott McLaughlin and Shane Van Gisbergen had been the center of attraction for Supercars and NASCAR audiences since it primarily began in 2017.
The incident involved McLaughlin and Gisbergen slamming into each other’s cars at the start of a Supercars race in Sydney, which later enraged McLaughlin to the point where he spun Gisbergen’s vehicle on turn 2. Since then, there was always a cold war going on between the two racers.
However, later, when Gisbergen was asked about his rivalry with Scott McLaughlin, his reaction was, “Rivalry? What rivalry?” Shane van Gisbergen downplayed his rivalry with Scott McLaughlin, who was also vying for the title, leading up to the 2018 Supercars Series championship race. Yet, it seems fans, including former NASCAR champion Kevin Harvick, miss the heated competition between the two champions.
As per speedcafe.com, Harvick said, “When you look at what happened [in Chicago], I think it tells you just how good Shane is, and the things he accomplished last week were pretty high-level. Now that he’s gone out and won a race, I think that gives everybody else a lot more enthusiasm about giving it a try. So, I want to see him and Scott McLaughlin goes at it; that’s what everybody talks about.”
“I’m still of the opinion that Scott McLaughlin needs to be a stock car driver, so come over here and really showcase it.”
