Recently, the Autosport website revealed its list of the Top 50 drivers of the 2022 season. It should come as no surprise that reigning F1 champion Max Verstappen topped the list. However, there were plenty of complaints from fans about worthy names missing out. The NASCAR community was the most aggrieved, especially since none of the Hendrick Motorsports drivers featured on the Top 50 drivers’ list.
The only drivers from NASCAR on the list were Christopher Bell, Ross Chastain, and Joey Logano. Meanwhile, 13 Formula One drivers made it to the list with Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, Lewis Hamilton, George Russell, and Lando Norris in the top 10.

Fans were furious at the disrespect to the Hendrick Motorsports drivers
The primary critics of the list were Chase Elliott fans, which is fair enough. Chastain, Bell, and Logano were expected to be included in the list as they made it to Championship 4. However, Elliott was the fourth driver in the final four, so fans were baffled at the snub. They were especially wild, considering that Elliott notched up the most wins (5) during the season. Here are a few of the NASCAR fans’ reactions:
Where's Chase Elliott, you know the driver with most wins and lead the the championship most of the season? Also George and Lewis were even the 3rd and 4th best driver in F1, much less in the world. Man, that British bias is something else.

This was so obvious that Autosport looked at the final NASCAR standings and based it off that.
Honestly Elliott and Hamlin really do belong on this list if Chastain is going to be Top 20 and Logano almost Top 10.

Chastain and Bell being on this list but not Elliott is so unserious

NASCAR drivers should definitely be higher. Most versatile drivers in the world, more then 20 drivers can win any week, and they race 15 more times then F1 does witch is mentally and physically harder.

There were plenty of accusations of British bias and F1 bias because the list had as many as 13 F1 racers. A few fans suggested that Autosport simply looked at the final results before compiling the list. Few people even made a case for Denny Hamlin, as the JGR driver had put in decent performances during the season. The fact that NASCAR drivers competed in more races than their F1 counterparts was not lost either on some keen observers of the sport.
How in the world is Ross Chastain on here but Chase Elliott isn't? Elliott had a way better season but Chastain made the list because he made a cool move I guess

You mean to tell me the best driver of the NASCAR season didn’t even make it to 50th? Actual crime. https://t.co/yRD9f2eaEi

There were a few insinuations that since Chastain “made a cool move,” he was given preference. One thing was for sure, a large number of Chase Elliott fans were furious about the snub. In the overall rankings, Bell was 38th and Chastain was 20th. Meanwhile reigning NASCAR Cup Series champion Logano just missed out on the Top 10, settling for 11th place.
