When you’re thriving as an actor, why would you consider switching to the unpredictable world of racing? Many fans might wonder, but Frankie Muniz is eager to get behind the wheel of the No. 33 Ford for Reaume Brothers Racing. He’ll drive full-time for the team in the 2025 NASCAR Truck Series season, having already made two starts this year. However, this isn’t his first foray into racing. Muniz previously competed in 14 Formula BMW USA series races in 2006 and participated in the Champ Car Atlantic Series in 2007. Unfortunately, his racing career was put on hold in 2009 after a severe crash left him with serious injuries, including a fractured spine and broken ribs.
Now, 14 seasons later, Muniz is gearing up to return to the track. In a candid conversation with Carla Metts Gebhart, Muniz shared what motivated this decision. He explained, “The amazing thing I love about racing, compared to acting, is it’s not subjective, right? I can think I did a great job in a movie, put my heart into a character, and people might still say it was just okay. In racing, if you’re good and you belong, you’re at the top of the leaderboard, and you can always see exactly where you stand.”
Despite being one of the most successful child actors of all time, Frankie Muniz’s true passion has always been racing. Since his racing debut in 2006, he has prioritized driving over acting, although he still made appearances in smaller roles in TV shows like Preacher and New Amsterdam. Muniz appreciates racing’s transparency, where performance is clear-cut and measurable. Now, having left films behind, he’s fully committed to a promising racing career. He believes it’s only fair to dedicate himself full-time, just as other NASCAR drivers do. To prepare, Muniz actively trains, spending up to four hours in simulators to hone his skills.
Muniz’s journey with NASCAR started with the Reaume Brothers, and his decision to go full-time has also been in collaboration with them. Their long-standing relationship has been a driving force behind his NASCAR ventures. Team owner Josh Reaume expressed excitement over the partnership, stating, “We’re thrilled to welcome Frankie to our team full-time and to expand our relationship with Ford Performance. Their support has been invaluable, and with Frankie’s passion and the momentum we’ve gained this year, we’re confident we can achieve great things next season.”

Muniz is thus determined to make his mark in the Truck Series. His debut in the NASCAR ARCA Series significantly boosted his reputation as a driver, finishing 11th in an 80-lap race after repeatedly breaking into the top 10. Reflecting on his journey, Muniz said, “I want people to see me racing, being competitive, and earning respect as a driver. I don’t expect people to accept me or respect me until I’ve proven myself. But that’s already started happening. Even in ARCA, people doubted me, thinking I’d fail. But I was leading the championship halfway through the season, and we did pretty well. That’s the best way to silence critics, and I hope to do the same in the Truck Series”. Success in the Truck Series could propel Muniz further into NASCAR, with role models like Ross Chastain, Kyle Busch, and William Byron setting high standards for what’s possible.
The question remains: will actor-turned-racer Frankie Muniz carve out a successful racing career, or will he eventually return to acting? Only time will tell.
