Joey Logano’s dramatic victory at the Ally 400 in Nashville was nothing short of a rollercoaster ride, filled with wild finishes, and a nail-biting fuel mileage drama. It all just sounds like a typical NASCAR race recipe, in all honesty.

While the Team Penske driver was busy celebrating his first win of the 2024 season, one NASCAR insider couldn’t resist taking a jab at Logano’s performance. And his punch retorted quite the scathing smackdown from the NASCAR driver’s faithful following.

After the race at the Nashville Superspeedway, apparently to Denny Hamlin‘s crew chief, Chris Gabehart, Logano’s relative lack of speed actually worked to his advantage, allowing him to avoid the chaos that unfolded over the record-setting five overtime periods. And he just couldn’t resist a little post-race trolling, taking to X to poke fun at Logano’s “slow” pace.

Gabehart seemed to have a serious case of sour grapes, responding to a tweet about the unbelievable performance executed by Logano. He didn’t say much, but it was enough to cause a riot.

“He was s l o w. That’s how. Lol,” Gabehart quipped, clearly irked that his driver had to watch Logano steal the win from right under his nose. Never mind that Denny Hamlin had the lead when the race first went to overtime.

Of course, Joey Logano’s fans weren’t about to let that slide. After all, the 2-time Cup Series champion had just ended a frustrating 49-race winless drought, and he’ll gladly take the victory, regardless of how he got there. As one fan put it, “Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good as they say.” Well said, indeed! But the other comments weren’t remotely as tamed.

Seeing what Chris Gabehart had to say, Joey Logano‘s faithful fans on Reddit were quick to unleash their wrath on Gabehart, with one fan declaring his experience of seeing the crew chief having had the last straw with his attitude, he said “Anytime I’ve seen Gabehart talk or heard him on XM radio he seems like a massive a**

Others drew hilarious comparisons, with one joking that, “Joey Tortoise and the Hare’d it” to victory. And when you look at it, the race was indeed a great tale to be shared in the future! Logano did not give up despite his vulnerability and that paid off in the end.

Fans also acknowledged that Logano’s car may not have been the fastest on the track, they argued that the driver still deserved credit for his fuel-saving prowess and ability to avoid the chaos. As one fan eloquently put it, “Shouldn’t the driver get some credit instead of just being called ‘slow’?”

One fan stuck up for Logano in a clear way, saying he shouldn’t just be called slow. Sure, maybe his car wasn’t the fastest, but Logano still had to keep up with the other cars around him while also trying to save gas. They defended the driver saying that that’s a pretty tough thing to do, and Logano deserves credit for pulling it off. They said, “Yeah he wasn’t the fastest car but he still had to maintain similar pace to the other cars around him and save enough fuel at the same time. Shouldn’t the driver get some credit instead of just being called ‘slow.'”

Even though some folks (like Gabehart and the Hamlin team) might say Logano just got lucky, his win showed how tough he can be, especially after overcoming his anxieties surrounding his playoff chances. He and his team deserve a little more credit for the smart decisions they made in the nick of time. And in the world of NASCAR, sometimes all it takes is a little bit of luck to win, and Logano’s fans are happy to point that out!
