Throughout this season, one of the biggest talking points has been the impressive performances of veteran drivers. Martin Truex Jr, Kyle Busch, and Denny Hamlin have been dominant in the majority of the race weekends and notched up 8 wins. It seems that these drivers are willing to race hard and give their all even in formats other than the Cup Series.

This can be attested by Busch’s performances in the Truck Series, and even more so, if one looks at the results delivered by Hamlin and Busch in their maiden appearance in Tony Stewart’s SRX Racing Series. Both veterans were able to net victories in their first stint in the ongoing season of SRX Racing.

Denny Hamlin seized a victory in the rain-shortened season opener at the Stafford Motor Speedway on July 13th. The very next week at the same track, it was 45-year-old Ryan Newman‘s turn. This week at the Motor Mile Speedway, Hamlin’s former teammate Kyle Busch had to walk the extra mile in order to taste victory, and this was apparent from his interview after the race.

Kyle Busch calls out the drivers at the SRX Racing Series for being a menace

Kyle Busch, in his first appearance in the 2023 SRX Racing Series, appeared along with other established drivers from the IndyCar as moonlighting. The Richard Childress Racing driver joined his fellow Cup Series driver Brad Keselowski, who is debuting as a full-timer this season.

Nevertheless, the SRX race on Thursday on the track of Pulaski County Motorsports Park was surely a wrecking spectacle for the audience, as the majority of the drivers were drawn in multiple car pile-ups. However, it was Kyle Busch who emerged victorious as he maneuvered through the carnage.

Kyle Busch’s win was surely hard-earned, after facing steep competition from the other drivers and it was evident from his post-race interview. Speaking on his victory, Busch expressed, “A little harder than I wanted. There are a couple of times, the guys were kind of trying to get to the bottom and really hacking across, and then turning down so, I found out the right front of the race car just a little bit but fortunately no harm enough out.”

The win surely called for celebrations for Kyle Busch, but the win was surely mired in controversy as he contentiously spun out his fellow Cup Series driver Brad Keselowski on Lap 56. Busch darted across the track in order to take the lead from Keselowski, however, he made contact with Keselowski’s bumper and spun him off the track.

This eventually brought out the caution on the track. Nevertheless, speaking on the incident post-race, Busch revealed, “Yeah, a little bit of that. I mean, I don’t know if he knew I was there didn’t know I was there what or what but, you know. I had a nose in there and I was like, I’m here, you know, and I got in next to his door and he came down we made contact.”

He also added, “You know is a little bit tough today probably for some side-by-side action […] This track here is just always been bottom and it’s always been kind of that bull ring type racetrack where you’re always shooting for the bottom. So you know, I’ve watched races here, but it’s my first race here. So I kind of knew what to expect but you know, it was all around a good race.”
