Uh-oh. Here come the bitter truth bombs for Team Penske. Since last November, Joey Logano and the No. 22 Ford team have occupied a royal seat in NASCAR. ‘Sliced Bread’ has flaunted his 3x championship glories with poise and decadence. However, that regal feeling may come crashing down for Logano as the stats start to show up. And Josh Berry’s latest spectacle just revealed something shocking.
Joey Logano’s three Cup Series titles were in 2018, 2022, and 2024. Notice the pattern in those seasons – yes, all of those are even numbers. But this season? The year 2025 is an odd number, which means that Logano may not have that sparkle. And his performances show exactly that. ‘Even-year Logano’ might actually be a real thing!

Josh Berry topples the champ’s presence
Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s late model star always had a glorious edge to him. Josh Berry has accrued accolades before – he owns 21 wins in the Cars Late Model Stock Tour. On the NASCAR side, he earned the 2020 Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series championship and is a five-time winner in the Xfinity Series. However, his true NASCAR potential glimmered during the 2025 Pennzoil 400 race, which marked his first Cup Series victory in 53 starts. Along with making the Wood Brothers proud and starting a new chapter in his career, Berry also proved he was better than his benefactors.
Wood Brothers Racing has a technical alliance with Team Penske, receiving support and resources from the renowned Ford team. However, Roger Penske’s own star may be dwindling in front of WBR’s recruit. Journalist Toby Christie revealed a shocking truth bomb that may be harsh for Joey Logano’s eyes. Christie wrote the wild comparison between Logano and Josh Berry on X: “Completely real statistic, which feels made up. Josh Berry currently has more wins (1) in 2025 than defending series champion Joey Logano has top-10s (0) after the opening five races of the year.”

Indeed, Joey Logano has zero top-ten finishes so far in the Cup Series. Aside from 12th and 13th-place finishes in Atlanta and Phoenix, all of his results have been outside the top 15. Last year, he won a quintuple overtime fuel mileage race at Nashville to get a seat in the playoffs as his only win of the season. Then, he triumphed in the playoff race in Las Vegas and booked himself a seat in the Championship 4. However, Logano’s luck ran out during the Pennzoil 400 in 2025. Despite starting off from a runner-up spot, Logano soon faded into the background and barely made a blip on the radar for the entire event. He was also engaged with Josh Berry in a battle for the lead until a late caution and poor pitstop ruined his evening. He finished 15th.

Meanwhile, Josh Berry put up a solid race after starting from 7th. He quietly lingered in the shadows as his competitors ran into a track-high nine cautions. However, the last caution involving Noah Gragson paved the path for the Hendersonville, Tennessee native. With 25 laps left, Gragson got a flat tire, and his right front fender was destroyed. On the final restart, Berry engaged in a fierce battle with Daniel Suarez. However, Berry dominated with 13 laps to go and charged off to hand Wood Brothers Racing its 101st win, finishing 1.3 seconds ahead of Suarez.
Ironically, Josh Berry also hailed Joey Logano’s organization. Along with acknowledging his team, he gave due credit to Team Penske.

Berry shows his gratitude
After all, the No. 21 Ford driver has been around in the Cup Series for a short while. Josh Berry quickly proved that he was Cup Series material in 2023 when he was tapped to drive in Chase Elliott’s place after the latter suffered an injury from a snowboarding accident. He wheeled the No. 9 Chevrolet to a spectacular 2nd-place finish in Richmond. After enduring a tumultuous season in 2024, when his team Stewart-Haas Racing shut down, Berry is back in 2025 under a new team and with a fresh will to win. What is more, he is already holding true to his team’s ethos. The last five Wood Brothers Racing drivers to win with the No. 21 car (including Berry) are all first-time winners.
Additionally, Josh Berry’s 101st win for the team established back in 1960 upholds a grand legacy of NASCAR. But while hailing his privilege to be part of such a golden team, Berry also acknowledged WBR’s technical partner, Team Penske. “It’s just incredible. They’ve been so good to me. It’s been a great relationship. Obviously, thank everybody at Wood Brothers Racing, but Team Penske as well. They’ve welcomed me with open arms and tried to help me and accelerate this learning process as much as I can.”
