Sometimes, NASCAR races can fall victim to the elements, which can halt the races. So when the sky does fall on everyones’ heads, drivers can do nothing but wait it out. Obviously, this can be very tedious, and no driver will be willing to wait in one place for so long. So there are some occasions when they leave the track to stretch their legs, take a bathroom break or run team errands. This very thing happened to Ross Chastain during the 2021 Daytona 500.

Owing to a bit of a delay, he noted that many of his crew members were getting a little hungry. So, Chastain hopped over to the nearest McDonald’s drive-through to pick up meals for his entire team. The then Chip Ganassi Racing team posted a video on Twitter of Chastain playing errand boy.

In the clip, he was shown telling a McDonald’s employee that he raced for the #42 McDonald’s car. Naturally, the employee serving him had a mini freak out while he ordered six meals for his team and a hot fudge sundae for himself.  At the time of the stoppage, he was running in 13th place. In the end, Chastain went on to finish seventh after a major last-lap crash elevated him.

The former Ross Chastain sponsor got into a spot of trouble recently

Fast-forward to 2022, and Chip Ganassi Racing is no longer operational in NASCAR. Chastain would move on to the Trackhouse Racing team, driving the #1 car. Meanwhile, McDonald’s is sponsoring 23XI Racing driver Bubba Wallace, who got himself into trouble earlier this year.

As it turned out, Wallace intentionally wrecked Kyle Larson in retaliation for an earlier incident. The driver later got slapped with a one-race ban for his misdemeanor and missed the next race at Homestead-Miami. In light of the incident, many fans were hoping that McDonald’s would drop Wallace as a sponsored driver. For the fans, it would have been a clear indication that the fast-food giant was not tolerating such tomfoolery. Unsurprisingly, McDonald’s stuck with Wallace and earned the wrath of a fair number of fans.
