Former NASCAR and Hendrick Motorsports legend Jeff Gordon is one of the most popular figures in the sport. With his constant television presence and successful racing career, Gordon has been a household name for as long as one can remember. But as per the unsaid norms, with success and popularity comes a tinge of hatred. At the time when Gordon was at the peak of his career, some fans accused him of cheating.

Moreover, with his winning streak, some people also said that NASCAR was biased toward the Hall of Fame inductee. However, it seems that comedian and actor Jeff Foxworthy had it all figured out. One of the richest comedians with a $100 million net worth, Foxworthy had a hilarious explanation about why NASCAR fans hate Gordon.

In one of his skits, the comedian discussed how NASCAR fans passionately love and hate at least one of the drivers. And immediately, a woman from the crowd calls out Gordon’s name. Agreeing that he is one of the most hated drivers, Foxworthy reveals that he has found the ‘real’ reason behind it.

He said, “It’s always Jeff Gordon. You know what? I figured out why a lot of NASCAR fans don’t like Jeff Gordon. And it’s not because Gordon won the points championship last year (or) because he wins a lot of races. A lot of NASCAR fans don’t like Jeff Gordon because Jeff Gordon enunciates.”

And as one would expect, Foxworthy’s answer was received with loud cheering and bursts of laughter. Explaining why he feels that, the comedian continued, “And there’s not a place in NASCAR for that kind of stuff. See, true NASCAR fans want an interview with a driver where you have no idea what he is talking about.”

And to highlight what exactly he means by this, he went on to imitate a NASCAR driver interviewing – “Well, I tell you we run pretty good all night long, and then we… (starts speaking incomprehensibly).”

With the crowd going wild with uncontrollable laughter, Foxworthy shared what he feels when he hears a NASCAR driver talking. He said, “As Southern as I am like ‘dude what?’ Were there any words in that?”

A fan’s explanation of why he hated Jeff Gordon

Most people believe that Jeff Gordon was really good at what he did and that’s why NASCAR fans hated him. Strange, isn’t it? But according to NASCAR journalist Shane Walters, this is one of the reasons why people disliked Gordon. In his blog ‘Why I Hated Jeff Gordon Until…’ Walters explains;

“Jeff Gordon was the young California kid who came into the sport in 1992. When it came to short tracks he was a mix of fast and aggressive. The very things that make short-track kings. The same thing that makes fans hate you.”

Furthermore, the journalist and NASCAR fan revealed that his hatred lasted only until the year 2005. He explained that in around 2005, new drivers came up and almost all the old ones were retired. This new era of NASCAR was a bit ‘robotic’ and not candid and real.

He said, “Once the young California kid, was now the only driver left with ties to the good ol’ days. I had an epiphany realization that I had actually come full circle. I was now a fan of Jeff Gordon.”
