While a win is still missing from his resume in 2023, 23XI Racing driver Bubba Wallace is having a decent time in NASCAR, compared to his earlier dramatic stints. Currently 15th in the standings, Wallace needs a win to book a playoff berth, although racing for points is still a viable option. However, things aren’t going as planned, especially in the 23XI Racing camp.
The #23 driver finished just outside the top 10, at 11th. Nearing the closing laps, Wallace, who had started the race from 10th place, looked to capitalize on his chance, taking a timely pit stop in lap 143. However, instead of making it into the top 5 along with his teammate, Tyler Reddick, Wallace’s pit stop exposed the team’s vulnerability, prompting fans to come out with bold comments.
23XI Racing’s real problem: Bubba Wallace or his crew?

For Bubba Wallace haters, the answer is quite simple. However, the issue seems to be deeper. This is not the first time Wallace has expressed his thoughts bluntly. The driver has earned a reputation for being hard on himself, as we saw earlier this year. In a similar vein, the 29-year-old can sometimes also be harsh on his team.
Persistent issues with brake dial and brake failure have had a major impact on the team’s overall performance. We saw that last week in New Hampshire when the #23 Toyota was struggling to pit in the right lane, exposing the team’s weakness.
Making the situation more desperate is the inefficient or inexperienced pit crew. Wallace could have finished better were it not for a lousy pit stop in lap 143 that got the driver further down the drain instead of giving him a possible window to catapult into the top.
While the 29-year-old was vocal about the brake issue last week, it was the fans in the community who noticed the team’s inadequacy, pointing out the ineffective crew that shaved away invaluable track position for the #23.
Strong day. Close to a 🏆. We continue our playoff push.

Soon, fans picked up 23XI Racing’s tweet after the race in Pocono Raceway, urging the team to make major strides to push the #23 team harder, given Wallace’s capabilities. And since this isn’t the first time, the team’s inadequacy has got its drivers fall behind, ardent fans even tagged the co-owners, Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan, suggesting to them to have a major overhaul.
NASCAR community breaks silence and gets vocal about 23XI Racing’s evident vulnerability
Though Bubba Wallace is in the 15th spot, he is still not out of danger. The driver needs to battle it out with Daniel Suarez of Trackhouse Racing and Michael McDowell to shoot his way into the playoffs. While the #99 driver ended his day at the bottom along with Joey Logano, following a multi-car collision involving Wallace, with 2 more road courses on the schedule, Wallace should be wary—especially of McDowell.
This presents Wallace with a new challenge, to earn his first win of the season and make it rather than point his way in. But in order to head in that direction, and make the most out of the remaining 5 races, the crew must get on top of their game and that’s exactly what the community had in mind as well when they said, “Need a better pitcrew for the 23 of we have a chance on making the playoffs.”

While the team proudly exclaimed its “playoff push,” tweeting this out, fans on the other hand extended some suggestions so that Wallace gets the result he deserves.
“You guys need to get @BubbaWallace a better pit crew. Every week, it’s the same old song and dance.”
The majority of online enthusiasts seem to resonate with this opinion of having an incompetent pit crew.
“Could have had 2 in the top 5, but every time one of the 2 crews decided to throw the race”
“Well, Bubba’s pit crew scr*wed him yet again. Seems like those guys just look to invent new ways to take away good finishes from Bubba. The 23 guys are like the bad news bears of Nascar pit crews.”

Another said, “@dennyhamlin @BubbaWallace This pit crew has to be swapped or something to make Bubba into the playoffs because, Holy that stop was bad for the final stage!”
Just going to leave this here. While he's not perfect by any means, there needs to be a change on the pit crew for the 23. They consistently lose a bunch of spots on pit road week after week. Thankfully Bubba got a bunch on restarts (9 in turn 1 at one point!), but it can't pic.twitter.com/TbcwtsM293
